Occasional Misfire - Help!

My 05 FE550 starts and runs perfectly except for one thing. It misfires occasionally regardless of engine temperature or throttle position. It quite literally skips a beat every few minutes or so. Seems to be getting progressively worse. Any ideas???

Have you checked the spark plug? Excessively oiled / dirty air filters also worth a look. If these already checked try cleaning carb. Timing may be an issue - just a few degrees made a huge difference in how my bike ran.

I've seen it where the bike is too rich and that makes the plug miss a beat. not usualluy a problem with your model though.

I checked the plug. It looks fine. Not running rich. I replaced it anyways and it made no difference.

What on earth could be causing an occasional single missed beat? Is this just something you have to live with on a carbed single? Is it worth rebuilding the carb? Can't imagine what I would be looking for. Could it possibly be something to do with my iridium plug? It has a very fine single electrode. Could it be getting momentarily wet and not sparking? Perhaps i should try a multi electrode plug. Any ideas would be welcome.
