so I finally checked my needle, which is the stock needle the bike came with. It's an "OBD". I discovered it has 7 clip positions. I dropped the needle one clip yesterday

all I can say is TAFFY is DA man! Leaner is better
My jetting experiences with this 06 Fe550e are:

I am a C rider, mostly ride woods trails. I ride 4000 Ft elevation, 40F-60F winter, 60F-90F summer temps. The bike gearing is one tooth down on the CS from stock. I rarely see 4th gear, never see 5th or 6th. My trails speeds are 0- 40 mph max. Mostly I run 0-25mph on single tracks, 10- 35 mph on open trails. I do run the rpms out on each gear, but my throttle is only 0- 50% open, maybe 5/8ths open, rarely 3/4, never full open.

Last year, I was running year round the settings MotoXotica gave me.

45 Pj
1.5 turns FS
185 Mj
OBD 5th clip down from top.
Bike ran and started good, but a little buttery through the range.

discovered mo power on a 35F degree day so then I went to a 175 Mj
Bike ran crisper, but when summer temps of 70F plus came, it was buttery again with less power.

soon went to a 170mj and it ran little better, but buttery again at 80F temps

so Yesterday I dropped the clip one and that was magic. bike is crisp again. I am now at

45 Pj
1.5 turns FS
170 Mj
OBD clip at the middle slot 4 from top and 4th from bottom.
4000ft and 70-80F temps

Like Taffy and others have said, inch by inch I go leaner and its gets better each time. I did notice it was a little tricky to start yesterday cold, but maybe thats becuase I was in the carb, just before I ran it. once It ran, it started good all day. One thing about these bergs, Buttery rich is less power. Leaner and crisp = Bike has better lifting front end power. by comparison, My Husky actually felt mo power when it got a little buttery.

Thanks Dale, Taffy and all others for jetting advice.

great news bob!

and if you continue with this theme please remember that everything can change including how it starts etc. but nothing can't be overcome and that running the bike is the first priority second - if the bike is now harder to start we still keep the settings the same but attack the new problem!

by the way, you didn't read far enough around that needle!

OB means it's a shiny silver needle that has been plated. D is the first of three letters that describe the dynamics of the needle. D is the taper angle and the needle that most have is a DVR.

i had my DVR on clip 7 and that was with A 150mj SO FOR YOU IT DEFO SHOULD BE CLIP 7.

remember the needle is there for two reasons

1. starting up mixture
2. mid throttle in 3/4/5 roll on

if you have a problem hopping a log in first gear it is not really the needles fault! if the mid range is better then the needle is better and we try to sort out the problem it leaves.

Taffy

WOW just started reading some of the owners doc for the first time. WHAT A FANTASTIC resource.

"None of the above conditions happen when the correct MJ is chosen, they happen when you ride with the OEM jetting which is very rich on Husabergs. Remember, all jetting tests must start with the top end and the MJ, you cure everything after you've got this right!" amen

Thats good info thanks .
Since reading the doc I have went to a 45 pliot 168 main obek rneedle, clip in the middle the bike runs better than it has in the past & im sure there is more to gain .
If it makes a diff im running on the street only .
