O5 Rear Springs ?

The 80/250 was a little soft so I went to a #7 progressive on my 05, do you guys think it would be better to go woth a 84/250?
Thanks

I have to get a different rear spring too. I did not see your weight/height posted. At 6'4" and 220, I am netting about 4.5 inches (112mm) race sag, with 30mm static sag.

I am not sure what spring to go too, but I am going to stay with a straight rate, as that is what I have run in the past on my KTM's and prefer them.

I have a 9.0 straight rate I am going to install on my 'Berg to see what I come up with as far as sag numbers. This is on a '05 FE550.

If any other big guys have already gone through this process and have the right springs, let us know!

I had the same inquiry this spring on my 05s. Knowing that the std 80 was too soft, I tried a 76/90 260 (?). The sopring worked very good in offraod conditions through the first half of the travel with the lighter initial rate, but as the bumps got bigger, it felt very springy and was not solid on the ground.

On a grass track it would not hold a little line or groove in a corner with the lack of push by the shock spring I suppose. I installed an 84 and was happy.

I'm 6'2", 235/240 plus gear. Perhaps for full on jump filled moto a bigger spring might be neccessary. However for offroad the balance was there with a stiffer fork spring, very neccessary in the 05 as they suffer from dive under decel.

The 06s have 4.4 fork spring and the balance std is very good.

My 2 cents and hope it helps

Actually the 05 shock was not design to use a progressive spring. But rather the "straight rate" spring. The 05 shock has more progressive damping built in with the new shape blunt nose needle. I tried the progressive spring and did not like it.
I have found the stock spring 8.0 N/mm (reguardless of your body weight) works well with this Shim stack for MX. The FC550 power is more usable and better controled. See chart: Ignore the 8.4 N/mm spring below, that was a old test.

Compared to stock Shim stack: Ignore the red bars, they are the fork shims.

I just purchased a 8.4 for the back of the 05 berg and would like to know your weight and ability if you do not mind as this plays a roll?
Thanks.

What about the 8.4 did you not like? I go 200 lbs and race Worcs style racing and found the 8.0 a little soft.

steve

where did you get these graphs from? surely you didn't do them yourself? it will have taken hours!!!

i can't believe there are over 8 24mm shims on the fork compression? is that right?

regards

Taffy
