bead of sealant swedishsteel! What brand of sealant did you use and can it also be used on the exhaust? Looks just like the factory stuff.

blue-stuff bead

Hi, Husabutt...
That looks a lot like some of the Permatex stuff I've used, both on the motor and exhaust system. Permatex supplies to a lot of auto supply chains as name-branded items. Permatex Ultrablack for exhaust, same as CarQuest Supreme Black #26886, use it on my 'berg, doesn't blow out, stays in place 'til you take it apart. I have some VersaChem Superblue silicone #613-3 that looks like the pics and the bits still on my '98, have used it on the valve cover, no problems....
I just can't lay a bead as neat as that...!!!!
I grew up in the automotive service industry; we had two old fashioned Chevron full service gas stations and a full service garage in Wilmington, Cal. Dad was in business from mid-'40s 'til he passed away in '76. Permatex was about the only sealer around worth using. We also sold a lot of RPM Delo!!!!!!

RE: blue-stuff bead

I'm gunna let my local cake decorator do my sealing from now on, thats way to pretty! on a serious note Loctite have a product, (sorry the number doesn't come to mind straight up) that is identical to the std looking sealant you know blue but a little translucent at the same time. I got my last tube from a SKF bearing outlet.
Best Regards

A bit off topic here but do you know that SKF also is a swedish company?

SKF stands for "Svenska KullagerFabriken" which means "the swedish ball bearing factory"

smooth bead man, almost artist-like

I haven't used any "goop" on my bike yet, but Permatex makes a product called "The Right Stuff". I don't know the part number, but it is impressive stuff. Easy to work with and seasl very well, it just takes a bit of patience to seperate the two pieces once they been stuck together. I have mainly used it in my automotive jobs, but oil tends to be oil when it comes to leaking.
