Hi guys having a few probs with the berg  and with not having it long im gutted because i love it and so much fun, i dont no wether its me or the bike with not nowing alot about them tried starting her yesterday got her going after a few kicks she was ticking over fine then stopped as if the tickover was low although it was fine the other day. Then about 7 nice kicks later on the 8th kick she kicked back and popped and a little smoke came out the side of the engine i dont no if its me or the bike but it nearly dislocated my knee and had to go to hospital unable to walk and badly swollen  .

I couldnt get it started after that and kept doing the same popping and kicking back and nearly took out my right leg plus when i tried the hot start nothing happened at all so never got her running again.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Phil.

it could be electrical , it could be fuel related . on the base of the carb is a drain bolt , 17mm spanner will suit . turn fuel off remove bolt . turn fuel on for 3 sec ,fuel off . bolt in .fuel on .
try that for a start , if thats not it maybe it's a blocked jet . you can also remove your spark plug and see if there is spark .

Hi thanks i will check those out and see how i get on, as for the kicking back i phoned up the local berg specialist and he says ive kicked it on the wrong stroke

I may be wrong (most likely) but I have never had an issue with kick back when kicking the berg. On any of the three that I have owned. I just always make sure that I am at the top and that the decomp is activated and kick firmly all the way through... when the carb is set right and the electrical is good they always fire right up.

how can you kick on the wrong stroke? :?:

If you kick on the wrong stroke, kick back I guess is possible......
find TDC and allow the kick start to go up past engagement point then push down abit till you feel resistance push through with a medium speed kick......my bike dead cold (40 degree weather) will start on the second kick....when I did my first valve adjustment the valves were way to much gap, I got a bit of kick back.....

Could be a woodruff key sheared on the ignition rotor which has changed the timing. Happened on my old IT.

Im pretty sure an overly rich condition will cause this. Do you have a float valve sticking or a float starting to get alittle heavy? The needle and needle jets tend to wear on these and lead to a rich condition as well. since this seems to be recent, I would look at the float bowl setup first.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi i will look into these, i dont really no alot about these bikes with only owning this one for a couple of weeks, but went for a run the other day first good run since ive owned it and seems to go through fuel quickly, i was suprised how much it used compared to the gsxr i used to own and didnt really want to stray far from any filling stations incase i ran out.

Is it common for these bikes to use more fuel than a sportsbike would?

Phil.

Having a rough guess i seemed to get approx 35/40 miles to 5 litres of fuel not riding hard, suppose it doesnt seem to bad when i worked it out.
