Hello there everybody, I picked up a FE400 2001 for next to nothing. Theres some problems I hope you all can help me with. First it won't start off the button, the stater turns over but just won't fire up. Second when the bikes hot it cuts out an you have to wait for it to cool down can take minute to 30!! It's got a lot of compression so it wares me out quickly :(. Also I have mx tyres (knobblys) and the bike is extremely vibraty on the road, and ideas how to smoother it out at all? I guess supermoto tyres will help but any ideas where I can get them from? All information will be grateful thank you.

Theres some problems
i'll bet!
there's a lot of info on the troublesome '01-02 bikes in the owners doc on the left of the home page. ( bettin' on the stator)
also, put your location in your personal info and the year/model bike in your signature..."you should have known"

Re: Noobie with broken bike.

re. vibes on road - unbalanced wheels have been a larger factor in vibrations for me than the knobbies themselves, although a tire with a dense knob pattern are smoother, such as the Mitas XT-644 (aka Trelleborg Army Special, a bit of a 'cult' DS tire - will go anywhere and actually last on pavement) a trials tire on the rear is supposed to be good for pavement

also on the knobbies, check to see if the depth is equal all the way around. may need a new set if the are worn from rocks, braking, or wheelies.

Tyres are brand new and they've been balanced. It's just so bad on the road it can make y hands numb after 5-10 mins.
