Hi guys. I've been looking at 300 2T bikes for a while now and dreaming when one came up for sale in my own town. It's a 2013 Husaberg TE300 with 63 hours on it. I've inspected it and now I'm going to test ride it and hopefully pay and leave with it on Friday.

The starter doesn't work (not worried about that) but the only thing is that it bogged out when the owner gave it some revs just after starting it. He said it was because it was cold but I'm a little worried about vacuum leaks. I've heard these bike had a few dodgy seals. So I guess I'll ride it and see that it doesn't konk out?

I'm a female and I'm looking for something a bit more exciting than my Yamaha WR250F.

Ha! that 300 should be the ticket then! - welcome!

(For the record, there isn't that much expertise on the 'Berg 2-strokes here in particular but very helpful people and broad knowledge, that's for sure. Might want to also check out ktmtalk.com as these are so similar to the same model-year KTMs.)

Boggy-when-cold sounds reasonable to me. Let's see!

bike + trail pics always well appreciated

Yes, you should absolutely give it a couple of minutes to warm up before you start twisting the throttle. If it bogs when warm, that could be a problem.

I owned one of these for a while and it's an absolutely fantastic bike. If it's in good shape and a fair price, go for it! It will DEFINITELY give you more thrills than a WR250F!

I got it!

Wow! Thanks for the great welcome guys! Plenty of good advice in here.

So the story goes I paid for it and picked it up on the 22 May. :spin:

Took it for a little ride first and it went well. Couldn't go too quick up the dunny lanes though, it's one fast bike and the gravel was deep and loose.

No bogging was happening so I think he really did just give it just a little too much when cold the first time (it was about 10 degrees Celsius out where the bike was). He had to get it out of the house when I went there so it was a cold start.

He said it had been sitting around for a bit and I asked him when the last time he rode it was. He said October. Fair enough, he'd been living out of a camper trailer for 6 months while the bike was in the house his wife was still in up north.

Unsurprisingly the carb will need a bit of a clean. It was riding ok all the way home but then peed 2-stroke mix all over my driveway when I arrived.

Since he is going back to Charters Towers, QLD (something like a 6000km+ road trip) He gave me everything related to the bike, which included a full set of Motorex stuff that was all half-used, so I'm satisfied he was running the good stuff in it.

I just got my WR250F back together and run-in, and I'll be doing maintenance and lots of checks on the Berg before I take it anywhere, so trail pics will be a while away yet. Until then:

Ha! I bet they are, plenty still here too. I hadn't learned how to ride a bike until I came to Kalgoorlie.

Yep, they're street legal here, and it's soon to have a licence plate added.

The part that gets me is that it's approved for learners

heh!!!

Yep, there are a few 650's over here that are registered as 8 horsepower learners. 8² maybe!

yes and the 650 is also approved in WA, most learners would need to strap on a few nappies to ride a 650

8 horsepower? They'd have to be antiques!

The RXV is currently unregistered, so dirt only. It belongs to my guy, who inherited it from his brother's estate. When we go riding together that's his bike.

It's a bit of a weird one to begin with, but it gets even more complicated... His brother didn't find the Marzocchi Shiver 45 forks to be up to scratch so he replaced the whole front end with one off a 2006 CRF450R. He was an advanced trail rider who loved doing big jumps so he tuned the suspension to suit.

I took it for a ride the other day thinking I would hate it, but I loved it. The front was really loose with a wandering feel and the rear broke traction without too much throttle. I was dreading finding sand but when I hit sand it was really stable. The rear spun up a bit but that's all. It was much better handling than my Yamaha, even if it doesn't feel as user-friendly.
