g'day new to this site and new to husaberg just went from a ttr600 yamaha to a fe650e , my god this bike is insane. just wanted to ask somebody if these engines are normally noisy at idle . seems to get louder once the bike has reached running temp seems to be mostly on the left hand side. very loud. thanks in advance ben

same problem, left side..metal whistle..incredibly noisy. if you get your ear close to the left engine side it's amazingly loud.

I have been told that it's all about ball bearing

They're not what you'd call a quiet engine.
But it's a concern you say incredibly loud.
What sort of noise are we talking here?
Help us out a bit. Repetitive tap, knock or rattle sound???

Loud noise on the LH side.. It is always a good idea to verify the tightness of the primary drive nut on the end of the crank.

I also find mine noisy I just try to ignore it or my mind starts to make up problems. I also notice the change in sound at idle as the bike warms up. FE650E. now has 10.3 hours on it.

mine got pretty noisy at about 60 hrs there was nothing wrong with it. it is concerning though. you thikn of all kinds of things going wrong

at 170 hrs I broke some gear dogs and took the oppourtunity to take out the e start internals and the Counterbalancer

its a lot quieter and smoother throughout the rev range now without the extra bits.

the noisy engine from the left hand cover is normal, but if its a knocking noise that you are hearing, don't ride it.rip the cover off & check that primary drive nut, like nsman says, it has a habit of coming loose especially if the keyway is a bit worn.
when i was a bit wet behind the ears with all this husaberg stuff,i thought she done a big end.(it is that sort of noise).
other than that, strap your helmet on tighter & get use to it.
..weed..

Wish i read this first i just ripped the whole engine out 3hrs later that was the problem now its laying there Naked and gutles Tomorrows The day i put her back together. Man the nut was so loose i could undo it with my fingers. would it make a big Diff it i remove the elec start and the gears fot it? except the fact that i wont have a elec start what effect will it have on the engine? good and bad?

RE: Primary Drive Nut

Hi all,
It has been a quite a while since the last time I've been posting there, glad to see that the community goes on =)

Back on topic, I have the same noise actually, one that seems knocking and seems to disappear with the revs. So I think that before sending my bike to the mech, I'll have a try on that primary drive nut.
My question is : what do need to do ?
Correct me if I'm wrong
I'll open the clutch cover, remove the clutch and check if the primary drive nut is loose or not ?

Thanks

RE: Primary Drive Nut

remove the entire clutch cover with the water pump and check both the the primary sane intermediate or balance shaft drive gear nuts

don't need to remove the clutch.

check JBSracing gallery for a lockwasher mod to the gears. I'm running that on mine.

removing the e start stuff would surely make a difference, mines a lot quieter without it but I also removed the counterbalancer.

its still a bit noisy like a whirring sound that shouldn't be whirring,

RE: Primary Drive Nut

Do I really need to remove the entire clutch cover ?
If I remove only the little part, will I have to remove something about the water pump and change the liquid ?

RE: Primary Drive Nut

yeah you cant even see the nut in question unless you take the cover right off, its on the crankshaft.

see if you can download the engine repair manual fom this site, it has good instructions, also check the owners DOC link on LHS of page

these pics might help also see what JBS does to stop the nut comming loose.

RE: Primary Drive Nut

Ok I think I understand better now, english is not my native language (but I think you already knew it =)
The nuts I must check are the 2 ones at the left of the clutch if I got it.
Thank you very much

Ps: can I ride my bike for a few mile (to go to my father's house who have all the space and tools I need), or is it too risky (what can happen ?)

RE: Primary Drive Nut

Tonight I opened the entire clutch cover and I checked the 2 nuts, but they were tight.
Thus my problem stay =(
Another idea while my cover is off ?

RE: Primary Drive Nut

check the axial and radial play at the crankshaft 0,5-0,8 left-right, and up and down there should not be any feelable play.

Regards

RE: Primary Drive Nut

thats not cool at all

can we see a pic please ? im curious about the location of the spalling if thats what it was.
