I can't believe it,I've owned this bike for approx 4 months, battery failure, starter failure, leaking gaskets dodgy kick starting and now no spark.Strange thing though, love the bike and the fabulous "design characteristics".I followed the thread on the site but still a bit unsure on a couple of things. After taking off the cover, apart from the obvious signs of rust etc, the inside of the flywheel seems to be loosing some of its "coating"or "finish".What can only be described as a sort of varnish or thin plastic coat is flaking off.Is this flaking detrimental to its performance and should it be replaced along with the stator...Gawd bless ya

the stator rarely gives up 100% there and then. so you need to start following wires. i have got through 3 ignition locks on mine....

Hi Matty,

I rewind these SEM stators when they fail, but first do some resistance checks on the leads from the stator.
Red to Black 3000 Ohms
Green to Black 170 Ohms

It is usually the Red and Black that fails, regarding the flaking on the flywheel nothing to worry about but keep an eye on it just in case it starts to get worse.

Thanks for that,it sort of died as if it was running out of fuel, got going again approx 3 miles then expired. If it is the stator, would it come with the flywheel if ordered new ?As I was saying is it normal for the inside of the flywheel to start de laminating, and could that be the cause by itself ?

Thanks Sparks,I'll try that tonight, what do you charge for a rewire delivered and how long does it normally take...........Regards Matty

Hi Matty,

No it is not normal for this to happen but it is farely common from like you say about yours to big lumps dropping out.
The flywheel can only be perchased with the stator when bought new, but DCR's can sell you one seperate. The delaminating is not the cause of no spark.
Where abouts in the world are you?.

Hi Sparks,I'm in Northants England. There isn't lumps falling off the inside of the flywheel just a few bits of delaminating,I'm guessing that shouldn't be an issue ?............Regards Matty

Thanks mate have emailed you reference cost ect.On the same subject,I've taken off the outside cover, removed the 3 allen bolts from the SEM,doesn't want to come off am I missing something ie any hidden screws or is it prone to sticking ? any technique ANYONE !!!

Hi matty,

If water has been in there they can fester a bit, good squirt with WD40 hold the stator best you can and tap the cover with plastic or hide mallet it will come off. I've had people send me them complete in case because they couldn't remove them.

Afternoon Sparks, ref the stator removal,I take it the actual mechanism comes away from the external engine cover, mines seems to have stuck fast!

Hi Matty,

Try as I suggested in my previous post, it will come off, but failing that send it with attached and I will deal with it at my end.

Regards

Sparks.
