No Head Oiling on 2005 Husabergs????

I just got my hands on my first 2005 Husaberg 650 for 750 conversion. The conversion is now complete but whilst I was doing it I noted that the long vertical oil way that previously fed through the head to the rockers in the rocker cover is no longer part of the head casting and machining but it is still in the cases.

What are Husaberg up to?

Is the head being lubricated soley by the chain dragging oil up?

Does this have any reliability implications?

Let me know what you think, thanks.

i'm keen to know why!!!!

surely there is no good reason to put LESS oil to an area of marginal reliability!

can it be drilled or machined easily as a preventative measure???

i haven't heard of any rocker bearing failures on the 2005's....only mains.

Have Fun

crash

i didn't understand a word of that!

i would think that the head IS getting enough oil from splash alone. they went that route for years if you didn't know-like 14 years or so and only fitted an oil pump in this millenium.

i would imagine that there is now a stronger oil feed to the mains, beig end and wall of the piston. it would be interesting to know what the flow rate of the oil pump is... lower than their rivals i would suggest?

Top end oil was eliminated in 04. At that time, a counterbalancer oil jet was added and in 05 an auxillary shaft oil jet was added for the inner brg. No one has ever answered to my satisfaction as to why the top end oiling was deleted, but I assume it was to free up more oil for the bottom as Taffy said. Top end seems to be fine without the pressure lube so I feel it is an improvement.

I believe the heads are the same as KTM and they have been running without oil pressure in that area from the start.

Maichusa has said it right, the new head has old LC4 components which are very different from the 03 prior valve train.

Both of my KTMs (520 & 525 EXC's) have oil lines running up the the top of the cam cover.

Yes but they just spray some oil around in the head through a jet. The older Husaberg (-02/3) have pressure lubrication on the rockers.

They (RFS) do not have a spray jet as such. The jet is really a restrictor in the banjo bolt that screws into RHS side cover, the purpose of it being to maintain crank circuit pressure/flow by limiting top end flow.

The oil line and top banjo bolt simply dump oil straight onto the lobes/ rockers.

At 9000kms, my RFS bike showed less rocker arm bush/ rocker shaft wear than my 650 pressure fed Berg did at 5500 kms.
