Night Ride 6/5/2004

Ok. Berger, no excuses that is too hot. It's only 110 today.

But one of our buddies can't take the heat, so he wants to ride at night.

He put a light on his Kaw and we are riding at Rolls OHV.

Stage at 7:30 as the sun sets. We'll stick to the washes and 4 foot trails until we get the hang of this. Then we'll try the single track at Four Peaks.

Too bad the cactus don't glow in the dark :shock:

It'll be fun.

Boy, that sounds like an incredibly cool time. Have you done it before Splat? I bet it'd be a whole new experience compared to a day ride, huh?

Anybody have a helmet cam? I'd love to see some dusk shots.

I'm thinking about it. I may have to put on my old plastics for this one. It's tough getting up at 4:00am to go riding by 5:00-5:30am. I'm heading out the door right now for the WFO meeting.

First time for me.
I don't mind the heat, but everyone else complains about it, so they all ride at 5:00 am
I hate getting up to beat the heat.
So, I usually ride alone/ with my son during the summer.
One friend has a headlight and he added a helmet light from a mountain bike store, but he's out of town. I'm curious about the helmat light, but I want to try one before I pay $200 for something I may not need.

I keep thinking that I should get a helmet cam, but I'm always ducking under branches and I know the cam would be trail trash at the end of a ride.

They have some new "head" lights out there that are absolutely awesome. My brother bought a few for his geocaching excursions. Some use led with a batterpack that is slimmer than the width of a AA. The other is a standard bulb, bright as heck. I would think it would work well for you.

Sorry I missed the ride. It's 9:30pm and I see the temperature has plummeted to 104F. I hope you ran over a few rattlers for me.

You missed a good ride. It was 97 F when we arrived. As we rode down into the sand washes, the temp dropped about 20 degrees. When we climbed up the hills, you could feel the hot air hit you like you were opening an oven door. I put a new front tire on this week and it was awful in the sand. The tire had no bite at all and my front was just pushing and plowing all over the place. The tire worked well on the hardpack and rocks. It was real good on the hill climbs, but it was scarey in the sand. I was totally out of control. I tried sitting all the way back on the seat, I tried standing, then I tried sitting on the tank in the turns in the washes and either the front pushed or it knifed, no in between. I got spoiled with the Southwick, it is awesome in the sand, but it slips and drifts on the hardpack. Now I have glue on the hard stuff and I am all over the trails in the sand washes. This IRC would be great for the m/m trails by your house. I'll try it at Bartlett and see if its worth keeping on the bike.

I learned something tonight, tinted goggles are worthless when riding at night. :lol:

My michillan m12 I think thats what it is. Works awesome in sand hard pack and everything even when flat!
