hi there, got this night enduro on saturday 15/7. and was wondering if there anything cheap or easy 2 brighten up the front light on a 06 550fe FERAL

Your lighting options are limited because of the AC power that is output to the lights. The easiest thing, and cheapest, to do would be to get a 55/60w H4 bulb and replace the stock 35/35w. Bulbs are cheap, about 5 bucks or so. The stock stator output won't run any higher output bulb than a 55/60w.

If you float the ground on the stator, you will have DC power to your lights and this opens up lots of options, HID being the best of them. However, this is not cheap.

The helmet lights like Trailtech sells are another option, and would be easy to do since your bike has a battery. Trailtech's website also has step by step instructions on how to float the ground on the stator.

I hope it is not a high speed race. To be safe, you really need to invest some time and money in a proper HID system if you are really racing at night.

Regarding HID, you're saying that what's expensive is the HID setup, and not the stator/ground modification that would also be required, is that correct?

Floating the ground is very inexpensive, just requires a soldering gun, some wire, and a voltage regulator, which is under 30 bucks.

Once you ge into the actual HID options, it can get a little pricey depending on what you do.

Hi feral
what year of husaberg do you have? to have good time night riding
you need good lights if you are riding tight stuff minimum would be
helmet lights if it gets faster you need 8 inch head light as well
if you have an E start berg you can get trail tech helmet lights
( get the spot lights ) they draw 26 W and kokousan charges 25 W
just start with fully charge batt and kick start the bike if you have SEM it has 70 W the biggest bulb you can run in your stock head light is 65 W it will dim when eng is idling having system DC would almost eliminate the
dimming riding at is different holes and ruts don't show when your are in
the dark if you have more questions let me know is this the night enduro

He says his bike is a 2006 right in his first post. Since he is from Australia, I sorta doubt he is riding an enduro in Olympia, Washington.

Hey Viking

I have a 2000 Fe400e which I switched out the stock light bulb and plastic lense for a baja designs bulb and glass lense almost two years ago. The light is an 80/80w H4 and I have had no issues with my original OEM stator or any other electrical components. The kit that fit my bike is the KTM replacement kit, the part number is listed in Taffy's document.

and two hid spot helmet lights I also have a rewound stator with 150w
output I will up the bulb watts keep in mind that larger diameter light

alright thanks 4 the info. i already have a 55/60H4 globe in. which is better than the stock.but still want more. the ride is 60ks at night and noncompetitive which i presume & hope is tight & twisty then sunday morning a competive enduro 4 club round. it my second 4 the year the first was a 2day two month ago on the 550fe with only 500ks on the clock and new boots and knee braces. man didnt i find new limits of my pain threshold, but that silly grin i still with me.man its one bloody awsome machine.sorry falling away from post reply. RUFONE was talking about a runninng a 80/80h4 without problem, any advice appreciated

Rufone has a completely different ignition/charging system on his bike. A stock Kokusan stator like you have won't run an 80w bulb on the AC power output. It might if you float the ground and run DC power to it, but you would most likelywould need a glass lens because the extra heat the 80w bulb generates could melt the stock plastic lens.

If you've put in a 55/60w bulb, you are as upgraded as you are going to be with the stock system.

Hi,

I'm riding the Big Bear Moon Light madness run (about 110 -125 Miles and more than half of it in the night) this weekend with my 99 FE 501. My bike is already up there so I can't look at it. What do I need from Baja Design to make the 80/80 W work. I think I have a sealed beam, but I'm not sure??

Part numbers will be great if possible. I will call them later today. But I'm sure this forum will know what I need beter than they will.

Thanks,

Hakan

hi Hakan
I assume that you only have volt reg and sys is AC connect both yel
wires coming out of stator to your volt reg and you should 140w
if you have an E start model I dont rememder howe they had that wired
go for the 8 inch light you be disapointed
