With the new 500cc plus bikes floating around,
I smell another magazine comparison test in the
near future.Any news? Will they enter a Husaberg
in working order this time? Will they figure out a
way Honda can still win?Are the fuel injected bikes
getting better?(something Husaberg should be
thinking about). How many carburated road
racers did you see on the podium this year?
(SM doesn't count). If a Jap bike wins will we
all throw up?

What Japanese dirt bikes over 500cc are there out there that are worth mentioning? The 650 XR?

Honda World will probably enter a 510cc
Special built CRF honda or some thing.
The Husaberg 550 and I think TM has a
new 570,the Husqvarna 510,GasGas
fuelie 500,and the venerable 525 KTM
would make a good comparison.

No 2006 TM's coming to the USA. I doubt GG will have an actual running unit in NA before summer. Sherco might. But seriously, it is a Hbg vs KTM show.

Now what if they do not concentrate on the big thumpers but any "unlimited" bikes?

2006 models currently imported in the US:

Husaberg 550 and 650
KTM 525 and 300
Sherco 5.1i
GasGas 300
Honda 650
Service Honda 500 2-stroke

What else?

Dirt Rider Magazine 24 Hour Torture Test will take place in Gorman CA the last weekend of January 2006.

Thanks for your thoughtful and well-informed question. Since our 2005 FE450 was selected as the top bike (out of eight entries) by two Dirt Rider editors, second best by two, and third best by one, finishing second in the results behind the KTM (and in front of the Honda 450X), just imagine how well we will do this year if we enter a bike in "working order" :)

Cheers,

Brett Saunders

Well, how about an open class MX shootout
on a well known track and throw the top
450s in too.RMZ450,CRF450R,and the green
and blue ones.

we already know what bike would win from the ones you mentioned.... :D

You never know.A couple of years ago
they put a FC501 and a KX500 on an MX
track with several riders and the big
green shaker did the best lap times.I
still have the Magazine somewhere.

they did one in Oz last year - 525EXC v VOR530EN v FE550e.

the KTM won overall(just coz it steered quicker and was easier to ride with a softer bottomend), the berg was the most powerful(excellent rating overall), and the VOR got politely knocked.

Have Fun

Nothing surprising, as the KX500 is way more powerful and lighter, being a 2-stroke.
