Hi All,

New to supermoto and wanted some advice/help.
I have a sportsbike but have always wanted a supermoto so took the plunge, but I'm thinking the wrong one!
I've bought a 2013 crf450x that I wanted to convert until I saw the fs570 and fs650!
Want to sell the honda now to get a berg! Any advice on the 570 and 650?!
Been looking for a while and there aren't a lot around for sale! If anyone knows of one for sale please let me know!
Cheers guys and post pictures once I've got my berg.

Welcome! Both are FAN TASTIC supermotos!

It's hard to say one is better than the other, both have their advantages. The 2009-2012 570 is more refined - but still quite powerful! - the pre-2009 650 is more of a beast.

I think most people would say that the 570 is more mechanically reliable overall, and a little less sensitive to previous owners' maintenance. So mayyyyybe a little more of a sure purchase perhaps.

Re. handling: Pre-09 handling is on the stable/slow side, 09-12 handling is on the agile/flightly side. At least the FE offroad models.

With the 650 you'd ideally want a post-2004 bike, increasing in order of desirability until 2008.

With the 570 there were small incremental upgrades through the years, nothing crucial afaik. Most significant were the differences in the suspension afaik. At least in the offroad FE version.

Hard to choose! I have a 570 and am dying to own a 550 (or a 650, there's just something about the 550 that speaks to me personally) ...

I'd decide on price if one bike doesn't speak to you more loudly and clearly than the other. Ideally ride one of each. It'll all make a lot of sense after that.

I'm 20 miles away at Newmarket Steven.

the 650 is faster and easier to work on. it has a winning pedigree and getting a 2004 or better a 2005 to 2008 is the right way to go.

I have a 2004/5 (can't recall) track day bike here. it was bought needing a rebuild which is probably what you shopuld do anyway if you're doing track days. I don't have any spare time though!

not sure I want a Honda - dead or alive..

regards

Taffy

Hi. I think everyone has summed it up nicely.

I've owned both; I had an '08 650 and now ride the '11 570. Both are awesome.

For me, I like riding and owning the 570 more, but it's just personal preference. I liked working on the 650 more, and I like the looks of the 650 more and it's a more of a visceral experience, but ultimately the 570 handles better, is easier to live with day-to-day and is nicer to manoeuvre with confidence. The 70 degree engine is pretty amazing, you do actually notice the feel of it – it’s not just marketing crap.

I'll stick with my 570 forever (until the wheels fall off) I can't think of a better bike to ride.

Hope that helps?

I want an FS570 desperately. That said, the FS650c is my favorite bike that I've owned. Having owned over 34 bikes in my lifetime, it really is saying something. I definitely was in Taffy's camp (never own a Honda) but now that I do, I really enjoy it. Still, it's like taking the bus compared to driving a ferrari (Husaberg FS650c). No soul in that Honda, just quick, cheap, reliable transportation. The 'berg, well, it's like a Swedish supermodel, when it's on, IT'S SO ON!, when it's not, it's going to cost money and time to figure out what went wrong and you still may not be able to fix it right away.

Hi and welcome,
Lots of good information on here, I think it comes down to preferance, if you like tinkering with bikes the 650 may be for you if not the 570 is newer and a lot more user friendly. That being said the fs650 is ( in my opinion) the old skool hotrod of motards but i may be biased, have had one for 8 months, ride it to work every day but i am waiting for some valve springs from the states at the moment to get her back on the road:(

The dreaded conical time bomb? Dual Valve Springs! Hip tip, if you get a FS650 - Change the valve springs immediately! The conicals fail and, if you're lucky, it's just a matter of awaiting replacements. If you're not, well, all kinds of bad things can happen. It's an easy and relatively cheap thing to address but should be done right away!

Hi goose,

That being said the springs are supossed to be replaced at 200 hours, mines slightly over that so its my bad, have visually inspected the rest of motor and seems ok, slight play on piston but not to bad, should last until 300hour top and bottom rebuild:eek:.
Starting collect parts for this little adventure.

Cheers Neil
