hi all im daryl

im looking in to buying a fs650 supermoto for the road and was just looking for any info really ive seen a couple about but ive heard you have got to be carefull on what year you buy im curently looking at a 2004 model reliable??

thanks in advance.

well they are 7 years old now and by now should have been rebuilt once. it's difficult to imagine a 7 year-old 650 being reliable that hasn't been.

they're not too bad, mains can be delicate, the exterior condition is usually an indicator of what kind of homes it has had. they are the best bike out there standard but I think you need to take a mechanic with you to look at the bike.

Hey Astradaryl, welcome to UHE, i too was like you, looking for a 650 supermoto. I had been given the wrong advice originally on what year to get and went for a pre 04 model, right price right time really............However you would be right to look for a post 04 model as they seemed to have sorted most of the engine (glitches) by that year.
Just to be safe though i would look for the 04-05 and as Taff says, the general condition of the rest of the bike will tell a tale. Although, one that has been raced will have brand new everything else, except engine and frame and will have been minced around most british tracks until its last breath...................Really though, no matter what year you choose, there will be stuff that needs doing so make sure that whatever you buy and whatever condition, just factor in the garage time against the price...........Good luck on your hunt my friend and do post us on your find!!
P.S. Where in the world are you?

Thanks for your input guys.
So a 04 or later model is one of the better ones to get.
And what sort of money at you looking at for a full rebuild I would imagine timing chain, valves, big end, gaskets maby piston and rebore/liner defo new rings. Are parts readily avaiable in England and are they resonably priced

I could do it all my self so I wouldn't have to pay any one for the build apart from machine work like a skim, rebore or crank split.

And what sort of price would you expect to pay for a average 04 650

Sorry to bombard you all with a million questions

Thanks Daryl ;)
