I have just come back from a two day trail blaze in Queensland AUS. stinking hot and dusty!!! 500 bikes all flat out through single track, open stuff, rocks, bull dust......very interesting. There were 4 bergs out of 500!!

I have an 04 FE450 and has only done 32 hours. The bike ive noticed is puffing some smoke when in nuetral and blipped hard. Is this normal or would this indicate some problems. The bike has a standard pipe but been jetted to suit oz. I haven't done the valve clearences for probably 8 hours worth of riding either (not all under race conditions)

Also, under load up big hill climbs the clutch sort of vibrates...not in feel but in noise???? any guesses.

I've probably posted this is the wrong spot so sorry. But I will learn.

Thanks again for a great site. This is a major asset to garage mechanics like me.

Welcome Steve,
Is that blue or black smoke. If it's black you may be alittle rich. If it's blue, I dont think I would concern myself unless oil consumption is a problem.
The clutches will make that noise under heavy load when pulling off of the bottom. Usually trying to start up a hill or in sand a gear too high. This seems to be somewhat normal.

Thanks for the reply, yeas its blue smoke and not much. Oil consumption is minimal, but my kickstart seal is leaking so most would be from that.

I found another post on the clutch noise so it looks like i'm sweet there. I might try that oil bath thing next time I drop my oil.

thanks
