I just purchased a 98 fc501 in a basket. Nice bike with motor damage. Cam tensioner and cam chain issues. The motor was dissassembled buy the prevous owner.

What decompression systems should this bike have? Which ones do I need?
It looks like I have a kick start decompression and a auto decmpression. No manual decomp is present. The only part I have left for the auto system is a small torsion spring.

how does the auto system work? Shouild I convert to a manual system?

ANy body have 98 fc 501 parts?

need: intake manifiold and varous decmpression system parts.

thanks

Welcome.
You will find a service maual for a 99 located in the downloads section located on the right side of the page. The 99 should be close enough.
Here is a link to some other manuals including parts guide.

Ebay currently has a few bergs being parted.

Thanks for the link. I have workshop and parts manual. I was unable to down load the owners manual from your link.

Whats the best way to deal with the decmpression systems? It looks like none of the system on the motor are functional. The kick start system looks like it nees a new ramp and key hole gizmo.

:)

I guess I am little too tired to type correctly. I meant to say I was able to download the file.

thanks!!!

You need to make sure the auto decompressor works on the cam. I dont know if it came with a manual decompressor. On the later models the kickstart decompressor was eliminated by a few people with good results.

Thanks Boss & BB:

Is it important to use a steel cam gear? The bike came with a brand new gear and chain (Al gear).
