New to the site. Just got my first bike a few months ago. 01 KTM 400 MXC and been out in the dirt on that about half a doz times. Good fun, but now I bought my second bike, an 03 Husaberg FS650e which is now registered and passed my MC permit test. I also got second engine with the bike and at is set up for C-16 or E85, Ti rod and light weighted crank. All in pieces but not sure what I want to do with it yet.

Rode it a few times today. Handles very well. Really wish the starter would turn it over fast enough to start the motor. Seems that this is standard fare for these bikes. Starting my research and it looks like this is the place!

i'm sure if you do yer research, you'll find the problem lies in either a weak bat, the exhaust valves too loose, the auto decomp spring too weak or most likely: the auto decomp step is knackered like in the pic in the owner's doc. (located on the home page at the left )

I did figure out that my stator is bad and occasionally causing a flat spot off idle. I'll be checking the valves when I install the new stator and starter.

I know the decomp works when using the handle and kicking or using the starter. Wonder if I can get my video bore scope in where the valve covers are to see the decomp step condition.

Does the spring on the decomp help it resist centripetal force during starting so that the step bumps open the exhaust valves at low starting speeds??

if you have a smaller 8-10mm head on the boroscope maybe?

yea thats exactly what it does, holds the decomp open only at startup then once it starts centrifgal force pulls the decomp the other way and it doesnt open the valve anymore
 
Oops... Not the stator. I had the meter on too low of a setting for the higher resistance. How embarrassing :oops:

Checking the tappet gap next.

check out the 1/6th turn method-----do not use a feeler guage--1/6th turn is more accurate and easier you can try to check on that decomp bump and see if its worn out at the same time, hard to say if the boroscop wil give you the angle you need to see it or not

Ah like the KTMs. I thought I remembered the berg having different gap specs?
