Newb with a crazy gas tank idea- will it work?

So I'm getting a 2011 570 S and I was thinking about making a spare fuel tank out of the stock exhaust and mounting it on the left side of the bike. Figure it might hold a gallon and would look like the bike has dual exhausts. I'd make it so that you could pull it out and fill the gas tank, not try to hook it up to the existing fuel system. Seems like a cheap and good looking way to go.

Would this work? Am I going to blow my bike up? Not sure if I need to do anything about static sparks.

It might create unbalance though, an i wouldnt wanna go slidin down the road on it if i dropped the bike.

Be good tool storage though, plus love the look of twin pipes

This is a good point. I didn't think about crashy sparks! I guess I better not crash until the spare tank is empty.

1)probably
2)probably not
3)if the can is directly bolted to the frame it will be grounded already, if its mounted with rubber isolators between the frame and the can, could be grounded with a small wire bolted to can and the frame. i dont know if it really makes a difference.
4)might look weird if they look slightly different from each other
5)what the hell its cheap, if you dont like it you can always take it off

Thanks that makes me feel better. Not that worried about it looking weird as I am not a fan of how the other options out there look. Think I'll give it a try.

Sweet! This is almost exactly what I was thinking about, but he went a step further and piped it into his primary tank - will have to see if that might work, some reason i the low-point on the husa pipe will be high enough, but maybe if I'm lucky.

What I love is that the exhaust holds 1.3 gallons - hell yeah! Even if the husa is smaller, it should still be about a gallon, which is perfect.

Don't really like his vent idea. I'm thinking a plastic tube - anyone else have good idea for that?

Defs going to try this out and I'll report back here w/ pics and info on the build.

Anyone else interested in this if it works? I'm going to work w/ a buddy who's a machinist and he might be willing to do more of them for a reasonable price.
