Hey guys I just got a 2005 FS 650 C, its my first bike that is entirely my own. Im pretty excited about it but had a few questions, 1: There is no mount for a side stand, I have access to a tig welder but would rather not go through machining, fabricating, and welding it if I can avoid it. I will do that if need be, but do you guys know of any clamp on or other clever sidestand designs I could use instead of altering it. 2: I'm looking into getting an aftermarket exaust, the only one I can find is the akrapovic factory titan, which I like but is 800 full retail and cant find any deals, thats definitely out of my price range. Are there any other options for this bike? Thanks for the advise!

Congratulations, you have a very unique bike, the likes of which probably never will be made available to the public again. Mine will outrun current KTM 690 motards primarily because it weighs almost 50 lbs. less and has a more aggressive cam profile and snappier engine. For the effort required to TIG and fabricate a side stand, you may be better off just finding stuff to lean it against. I park mine anywhere I want and just explain that it doesn't have a kickstand and everyone accepts it. Spend the time and money to make it street legal by upgrading the stator and adding an after-market headlight, tail light kit. Trail Tech does the stator and adds a rectifier and you can find dual purpose lighting kits everywhere.

Yes congratulations abertoni,
I have two 05 FE 650s. One with a plate. They have been very reliabe for me
I do change the oil every 5 hours and check the valves every 20hrs just to make sure
they are in spec.
If it was me with the sidestand, I would go ahead and weld it up. Of course I do welding at work
but Its really not that difficult and there are pictures you can look up here to see the factory design.
I would recommend useing a mig welder with 35 wire. The sidestand doesn't have too many pieces to
weld together. But it would take some hours to do. I think it would be worth it.

That bike is the silliest scariest and most fun bike I have ever ridden. I put a bigger stator and nice lights on mine and I lean it against street posts or wear a back pack and take my triangle stand with me. Enjoy the wheelies!

Enjoy

I sure did! I always like seeing the same year 650 supermoto.
I've thought about making one of mine a motard. Looks real fun and you know
that 650 motor wants to go.

Wow that track video was amazing, great rider!

Edit - Props to the original poster for the new bike, I just picked up the same ride about 3 weeks ago 8)

Hey guys thanks for the input sorry for not responding to quickly I have been out of town all weekend. Anyway, I'll try to address the topics in order. So first of all it is street legal, with lights and a CA plate and current sticker. (Check). The reason I really need the side stand as opposed to standing it against a tree is that I need to park it in a packed motocycle parking strip in a city, I can't really just lean it up anywhere, and I think bringing a stand with me would get old in about 5 minutes. As for mig welding I totally could, and may. I wish there were some sort of clamp on but really have not found anything substantive. Great video that is sick. And Dave I have looked through your thread on SMJ, I'm glad you got the bike too, it seems as though its going to be a lot of fun. Also I've gotten away with riding on the street without a tac/speedo, do you guys think its worth installing one?

I am hoping some Husaberg vets could chime in on the FS650C for longer distance riding. Probably answered this question dozens of times. I'm looking at a 05' as well with low hours/miles. Already plated/street legal. Due to low oil capacity is it not recommended to take these on a 1,000 mile ride once or twice a year? Otherwise just local riding with a 100-200 mile spurt once a month. I know about the seat. Then of course the fuel tank is small but have not found any aftermarket tanks, IMS, Safari, Clarke, etc. Don't mean to hijack the thread but since it is the exact bike I'm looking at thought I would throw this out.

Also looking at a 08 FE550...

For long distance riding, change out the 15 tooth countershaft sprocket to a 16 tooth. The bike has so much torque you won't miss anything and it lets it cruise easy on the road. At the lower rpm's I can get 45-50mpg so the 2.25 gal. tank isn't that bad, plus I carry an extra 1/2 gal. as a reserve in my tail pack. Get a trail tech Enduro or Vapor speedometer which have magnetic pick-ups on the front wheel.
