New to me 2013 FE501 :) - Mod Plans / A Few Questions

Hey All,

Gave up on looking for a 2014 model after going on "how many left" and seeing that there are only 2nr registered 501's in the UK

Picked up a 45 hour 2013 501 instead, what an awesome bike, powerful but silky smooth and controllable

Parts I have ordered so far and will be going on this week (before an all day trail ride Saturday):
- Acerbis Rally 3 Handguards
- Aluminium Rad Guards
- 2014 Blue Plastics (full set)
- 2014 Speedo
- Standard WP fork stickers
- Renthal grips

The only other mods I want to do over the above but are struggling with are:
1. a key ignition, local dealer says there is no such thing but it looks to me like the 2014 KTM500 has a key ignition in some countries? - Any one have advice on fitting this or an aftermarket key ignition? (looked at the links below but not sure if they are right for the job?)
Universal ignition switch - 2 wires - ideal for trail or enduro bikes | eBay
BRAND NEW ENDURO STYLE CRF XR 2 WIRE IGNITION SWITCH | eBay
2. Slightly lower the height (thinking dropping the forks 10-15mm and reducing preload slightly?)

Looking forward to being a Berg owner/rider and any comments :)

Hello Steve

mate of mine bought one of thee last week and thinks it is lardy. he's been on 300 screamers for years so converting him is going to be difficult.......

check your race sage first and let me know before you change anything. also your weight?

whereabout darn sarf are you?

oh and BTW, welcome to UHE!!!

Taffy

Hi Taffy, thanks,

Lardy!! It's light as a feather to me as I am used to a drz400 lol

I haven't checked the sag yet but I am about 85kg in weight but only 5"8 high.

I am from 10 miles west of Cardiff

Steve

I see, well you are near a sea port so its natural that you'd look at a DRZ and think it turned on a sixpence!

Took the bike out for an all Dayer yesterday, bike performed faultlessly, different league to ten old drz, also I think I will leave the suspension alone as I found it manageable, as you said Taff with the bike being so well balanced the height doesn't seem to matter off road as much as with th DR

yeh I had an all dayer yesterday and my mate brought his KTM 300EXC 2001 over as he's a loon and so is his bike!

wish I'd had a run on one so I could say I'd had a go on one. but he's getting it ready for sale which is a shame....

as for your sussies, just put zip ties around the forks and see what she's doing?

regards

Taffy
