Hi all.....
My first post and a couple of questions.

I just bought an 04 FE450 with 145 hrs on the engine and was wondering if anybody can tell me if there is anything on these bikes that is likely to give problems and leave a person stranded.
Alot of my riding will be in fairly remote areas where it wouldn't be ideal to be stuck.
I really don't mind spending a bit on the bike if i can reduce the chances of that happening.
This is my first Husaberg, so please tell me if i am being a bit too paranoid Lol.....

I have'nt picked up the bike yet, but had a good chat with the previous owner, and he tells me that he has had no problems at all with the bike, and that the usual maintenance items have been attended to.

Also can anyone tell me what kind of fuel range i can expect with this bike.

Thanks in advance for any answers to my questions.

All the best.

Dave.

Hi there Dave,
I had a couple of 04 550 and they was pretty good and reliable, maybe consider replacing the cam follower bearings around 160hr. Regular oil changes to

Fuel range on my 550 was near the DR400 .18- 20 km/l I think for me. If your a throttle jockey or in tight terrain it will be way less than that I would say.

Look through the forums and you will find info on the bikes , type in 04 FE 450 in the search.
I am sure there will be heaps in there on that bike, kms and hours when others have replaced or fixed things.

Really with the stock tank of 9 litres you can ride 180 km ? Sorry but i cant believe that. Actually the fuel range it dependes of your ride style but you will be looking for a petrol station when you will ride 100 km.

Maybe the fuel range is nearly the drz 400 e but so far away of the drz 400 s

I used to hit reserve around 120kms on my 650, dry around 160, best ever 188kms from a tankfull........
worst was 84kms from one tank..... depends on a lot of factors.

I have the same bike, as you Dave, The original conical valve springs are a definite weak point, change these for the dual spring setup, before one breaks and destroys your motor. Some have been lucky and just bent a valve and others grenade the top end, either way you'll end up walking home.
As a bonus while you've got it apart you'll be able to get a good look at the cylinder condition, cam/bearings etc, I find it's always best to have a look inside any engine that your going to be using in the middle of nowhere, especially if like me you ride on your own at times.
As for fuel range mine does 10miles per litre on average.
