Hey all ,

New to husaberg and am picking up a 2009 Fe450 tomorrow, I've heard the bergs have starter, fuel pump fuse battery etc issues and want to know what preventative maintenance I can do to minimize the risk of being stranded.

Welcome to the family, after my first season on my berg 390 I have no issues to report. Maintenance is simple, I just change the oil and air filter and ride. If you do have any issues there is plenty of info on this site to get you by.
Enoy your berg.

Hi shooter114
These are great bikes. The designers of the new Husaberg are brave thinking outside of the box. Introducing a dirt bike with a different design, than what we have seen for years, is a big step in the right direction if we want to keep improving bikes.
My 2010 FE570 has been bullet proof, one of the best bikes I have owned and I've had many.
Take a few hours and familiarize yourself with the bike, be cause they are different, disassemble the bike's sub-frame, tank, radiators, wheels, any thing that would involve trail side work(example, dropping in a river and get running) or maintanance, use correct torque values. After you do this three or four times you will find these bike are very easy to work on when needed and you will know what few tools are needed for disassembly.
Be sure to check the many HELPFUL post on this site discussing the Husaberg( this is one of the best sites)
CAUTION: there are a hand full of online RANTS mainly from the same individuals on this site and other Husaberg forms, that seem to be doing everything they can to bad mouth the Husaberg. It's like they are being paid to RANT. BE CAREFUL what you read and believe!! Like any new product there will be a few problems, mainly KTM received a batch of bad fuel pumps that were installed in some 2010 bikes. These fuel injection systems will go for tens of thousands of miles with no problems if clean(check your tank) and with good fuel and a little Techron concetrate every thousand miles(don't use any thing but Techron).
Learn your bike and it will reward you with many hours of FUN.
Have a great ride

as your asking the only weak point for me is the suspension !! everything else is spot on. i have 110 hours on my 2011 fe450, checked the valves at 105 hours and they are spot on ....

Thanks guys, helpful info there .

Yeah seen that there are some seething issues and frustrated people ranting about them cuz they don't know how to deal with them lol.

Techron fuel ?! I've got a mate who races and he only uses a specific brand and octane of fuel on his tm race bike so ill see what he uses as he said something similar about clogged filters and white gunk. On the note of the fuel pump problem do u guys run a bit of two stroke mix to stop it from seizing the impeller ?!

The plan is to go for a small ride then take the majority of it apart and ;

clean/tighten and seal electrical terminals.

Remove clean and seal the starter motor with high temp silicone.

Check all nuts and bolts screws and start putting together a tool list for trails.

Install bark busters

Check fluid levels

Anything else ?!

Looking at also getting some slimline indicators for the rear, would auto shops have these ?! Any links to ones done?!

I've heard bashplates aren't necessary / stock skid plates hold up well is this true ?! And many of you guys run radiator guards ?!

Techron is a fuel additive from Chevron. I was on a research committee in the nineties for General Motors and Techron concentrate plus and Techron fuel injector cleaner (find the difference between the too on the internet) were the only fuel additives that did what they claimed and DID NOT soften the coil insulation on the injector coil which will cause injector failure. Today there could be other additive that work without harmful side effects.
Don’t use Chevron fuel in Many areas they are using ethanol with a high level of moisture.
ProFill tank filter are good if your fuel supplier(cans and stations)is not clean. Don’t use gas if it has been in the plastic jug more than a few weeks. Make sure the 09 does not have a contaminated fuel tank, might need a good cleaning
Bullet Proof radiator guards
Don’t add oil to the fuel
Starter motor is sealed well no need to silicone, don’t use silicone on these bikes it could plug oil pump intake screen.
Sounds like you are on track for a successful Husaberg experience

Yeooow!! Finally picked up bike yesterday arvo, installed radiator guards , bark busters and new grips. Hopefully get a ride in this arvo after work if the rain holds out - pics to come soon !!
