Hi folks! I just purchased a new 2011 FE390 from Tri-County Powersports near LA, and I'm having it shipped to Seattle. Should be here in a few weeks, hopefully. This will be my first true dirtbike, although I'm an experienced street/adventure rider. My current other bikes are a 2006 R1200GS and a 2002 F650GS Dakar.

From the reading I've done here and elsewhere, it looks like there are a few farkles I could add, but nothing that really screams out for replacement. Since I'm in the relatively cool Pacific NW, I'm not sure if I'll need to add a cooling fan - any thoughts? I do plan to add blinkers and the other bits necessary to plate the bike early next year, when that becomes possible. It looks like the bike already has a tail light. Can anyone tell me how complete the wiring harness is - does it already have plugs for blinkers/horn/license plate light, or will I need to add an aftermarket harness?

Also - any advice on which handguards/barkbusters work well for this bike?

Thanks all - and I'm looking forward to a lot of enjoyable reading on this forum.

Congrats on the new toy! I really love my 390. It handles so well, and just seems to find so much traction. Love it!

I would put Enduro Engineering rad guards on, as I've seen rads on other dirt bike get punctured by tree branches and deadfall. Mine have already paid for themselves once. I would add the fan too. I ride in even cooler temps, and my fan comes on all the time in the tight stuff we ride.

Have fun, and welcome!

You will love your new 390. I have a 2010 and it is by far the best bike i have ever owned. Perfect amount of power for every situation and almost too much traction! As Garrison mentioned, rad guards would be a good idea. The rad fan is a must. You'd be amazed how often it comes on. Also Enduro Engineering hand guards are also a must. There are other options out there for hand guards but i personally like Enduro Engineering. As far as the wiring goes I'm pretty sure it is already wired for lights, turn signals and horn.

Enjoy your new toy!

I have a 2010 FE 450 I bought about 3 weeks ago. The KTM/Husaberg fan kit is plug and play and not too bad to install. You will need to drain and remove right radiator and you will need a rivet gun to install the frame that holds the fan onto the radiator. If you buy radiator guards make sure you buy the kind that work with the fan kit. I bought a lot of my Husaberg factory accessories (frame guards, fan kit, ignition map, etc) from CycleBuy (http://www.cyclebuy.com).

Since I'm in Colorado, I only needed to add the horn (blinkers are not required), DOT tires, and mirror. Sicass Racing makes a $48 kit that adds the horn (the wiring is already there and it connects into an existing plug). This kit also adds a license plate light (which isnt required in CO) but is a nice to have and plugs into an existing connector. Here is the kit:

You may want to contact them to discuss your options a bit further. I see they also offer more extensive kits for 2011's that include blinkers, but these are significantly pricier (~$300). Not sure if your state requires blinkers so you may not have a choice and may have to go with the more extensive/expensive kits.

You might also look at Baja Designs (http://www.bajadesigns.com). They are pretty pricey as well, but it's a place to start.
