New stator no spark? grrrrr

Hey guys so i got a rewound stator from sparks after i sent him my cdi and stator after he rewound it he ran up the tests and said it was all good and shipped it back to me, so i mounted them up and still no spark?

my question is what else could be wrong if the cdi and the stator were tested good to go? are the sparks hard to see maybe im just not seeing them?

Also i am absolutely NOT doubting sparks rewind service it looks like a top notch job to me i just want to figure this out, tried to pm him but he still hasn't got back to me.

Orange cable

Don`t connect the orange cable to the killswitch.
Change everything from the CDI down to the plug.
The spark can be hard to see if you don`t have a second leg ;-) to help you.

where can i buy a new wire that goes from the cdi to the plug?

Hi 501,

Sorry for the late reply, the lead to the plug was ok when it was with me, have tested for a spark without the plug cap attached, make an air gap of around 10mm from the end of the plug lead to the engine, away from the plug hole.
On a normal kick the spark should jump this gap with no problems.
Make sure the black wire that comes from the cdi/coil is well ground, if not it will not spark.
Just to be sure recheck the resistance values from the stator, your stator has the moulded three way connector block, just remove the green plastic cover on the block so you can gain easier access to the three terminals. The figures should read,
Red to Black 3000 Ohms
Green to Black 170 Ohms.

Regards

Sparks.

remove your plug cap and test for spark if resistance measurements and the connections are all ok.

OK so it locks like the stator is up to spec, tried to see a spark by holding it to the head and also 10mm away and still nothing whats going on here? i have never had this many problems with a motorcycle.

hey sparks when you had my unit did it spark from my cdi and my ngk wire?

Yes I ran both your stator and coil together, ran it for 15 20 minutes at varying different rpm's.
Sparks threshold was around 150 to 200rpm, this has me baffled now.

I ran two other stators with your coil just to test it prior to rewinding your stator, tested it with your stator and performed just like any other.

so what else can i check? could my grounding box thing thats hooked up to the frame be bad?

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Orange cable

Okay,

Just to clarify, you had to install your CDI and the stator?

When you were troubleshooting did you make sure that all leads are connected correctly? I'd ensure that the grounds are good. When you checked for spark was that with a plug and cap or did you remove the cap?

yes rewound stator and original cdi that was run and good according to sparks, all my leads look good i will try to make a new ground to see if that does anything, i have checked for spark with cap and with out and well nothing

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Orange cable

I know it was mentioned previously, but have you disconnected the kill switch?

yes i think so that's the orange to black one near the cdi?

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Orange cable

orange to black? hopefully the black one goes to a kill switch and not the stator.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Orange cable

i have tried it all kill switch no kill switch cleaned all the contacts on the wires, i tried a new ground still nothing

my stator flywheel looks good too.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Orange cable

what else can i check? i put a magnet up to the stator magneto fly wheel and it pulls strong

when you preformed this test did you use my spark plug cable hat and cap?

also should i be able to get a spark when pushing the kick starter by hand and having the spark plug out?

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Orange cable

I dont think so,it needs a good kick to make enough rpm to get a spark big enough to see.

Yes I tested it as you sent it, as NSman says just by hand might not be fast enough to generate a spark.

Make a fresh ground with the Black wire from the coil and leave the Orange wire disconnected.
Test for a spark straight from the HT lead with out the cap.
Unless gremlins have got into the coil from it leaving me back to you I'm now all out of suggestions.
Do you have the option to borrow a coil just for test purposes?.

Check the DOC, I think in there is where I found an Auto Zone part number for a "spark tester" It has a spark plug connection on one side & a spring loaded clamp on the other. You can clamp it to the motor on one end and connect your plug wire on the other, it is MUCH easier to see your spark, you can also vary the gap where you see the spark . Works much better than trying to hold the plug in contact with the bike , look for spark and turn the motor over. I thought I had a spark problem once, turned out to be the valve adjustment.

do it at night (there is usually one per day).
