New owner/ older bike

I just picked up a '97 FE400e and have been looking around this site a bit. I have noticed that it leans more to the 2000 and up bikes.
I looked at the docs, but am unsure if any of the info would even pertain to mine.

Since the bike came with no paperwork, are there any real world specs on it: top speed, angle of climb, capacities, etc etc.

I am also wanting to mount my aux tank from my FJR to the Husaberg for a ride or two, is the rear frame stout enough to handle #40ish pounds? It would be mounted over the rear part of the seat area.

Thanks

hello, welcome to the site, a lot of the info in the doc does still pertain to your older bike, part numbers and things listed will be different of course but the principles a lot of the basic designs are the same. you will find you have a different stator as one major difference.

try a google search for 1997 husaberg fe400 specs you will find some bike spec pages with at least some info. on my 600 the info i found on the spec pages was the same as whats in the owner manual. also husaberg.com changed there site around recently but you can still download older files (dont remember how but they are there i looked after the site change) i would think that subframe to be more than stout enough to hold 40-50 lbs. i had a buddy breakdown a few miles from home and rode on the back on the back of mine and didnt bend anything, no it wasnt a fun few miles but we got home lol. i think 40lbs will change how it handles a little but definatly doable

Hello Alchemy

you have little choice but to look forwards as there are so few spares around for the old girls now. your bike is much nearer the later bikes than you may think!

just put a few questions up here.

Found the manual at Husaberg- have to use the search function since there is no drop down that I saw.

Question: what is my electrical output on this bike? That is always a lacking spec it seems for every bike. The PO has switched the lights to LED, but did a poor job on upgrading the headlight. I am wanting to run a set of http://tinyurl.com/72wry8y which would have a draw of 56w vs the 45w of stock. I also want to tie in a gps, 10w or so. I *think* these are doable, but have no real idea.

Oh ya, broke the kickstand yesterday so my son is welding it back up today at school.

haha i broke the kickstand on my bike shortly after i bought it two, been over a year since rewelded nad been holding up well, power output is pretty weak and there is no stator upgrade that i know of, i know its on the site somewhere but cannt remember the spec for sure, i am thinking for some reason 100w total power output??? also i think that the output is split some to the lights some to the battery/accessories so you maye only have like 60watts total to ply with. it may take some digging and resrach to find the spec but it is there somewhere, you may find that the stator is a weak link on these bikes and you may not want to push it very hard as they are hard to find a costly to have them rebuilt
