Hi,

New to this forum and the new owner of a 1999 FE501E

I've downloaded the workshop manual from this site (Thank you to the person who made this download possible).

As the bike did not come with any service or hours history:

My intention is to pull the engine. check it over, change the rod bearings and bushings, checkc to see if it is fitted with the two piece exhaust valves and replace if so. Check and correct an issue with the electric starter.

I intend to fit street tires and am now, (I think) looking for an 18" front wheel on which to mount a new front tire.

I intend to ride the bike casually on the street with a Super Mono look, not to ride it hard or to race it.

Any advice on obtaining the require pullers to disassemble the engine and any other issues I should look for would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

You may want to rethink the 18 inch front. That size will really limit your selection of front tires. The stock rear rim will be too narrow to mount a proper street tire as well. I'd suggest 17 inch, front and rear.

Thanks for the replies

Can anyone suggest a source for parts in general and specifically the 17" wheels?

Additionally does anyone rent or sell the pullers required for the engine disasembly?

Thank you

Trevor, send a PM to BOSS, he will have or can procure the tools you need, if you can find someone to rent you the tools, more power to ya! but I do not know of any bike shop that rents pullers or specialty tools. Let us know how it goes and WELCOME.
