Hi all. Picked up my first Husaberg Yesterday,2003 FX650E in supermoto trim, what a bike! Also have a road legal YZ 250 two stroke supermoto which I thought was quick but the Husaberg makes this feel like a moped. It's got a full Doma race pipe which is incredibly loud, the neighbours love it, not. I really didn't realise they were so quick. It's geared quite high, 115mph and still some left, the handling is superb.
It's the first 4 stroke I've owned, always have and always will love my two strokes. The main reason for steering clear of the 4 strokes is the rebuild costs, I just hope this one stays in one piece. It's done 53 hours and 2400 miles so I am hoping not to do anything major to it yet, it's had regular oil changes and the engine sounds sweet.
Starting is my only gripe, left hand kick start is alien to me, I ended up bump starting it down a big hill this morning after trying to kick it for 15 mins. I have read about the tecniques on this site but still find it difficult. The electric restart works but only starts the bike if its still hot, let the bike cool for half hour and it won't start it, any advise would be helpful here. Apart from an oil and filter change is there anything I should replace or inspect? Thanks folks, great site.

Hello Freaky

I like yourself have got a berg as my first 4stroke and I rode it in anger for the first time last weekend for 7 1/2 hours around the local lanes and I too was v impressed coming from 2smokes....the grunt from bottom all the way through is addictive and the canaries in the airbox make for a different induction sound....

Enjoy!! :D

Have you tried using the e-start and kick start together? Takes a bit to coordinate the right thumb & the left leg without biting the tongue, but it works well for me!

Freaky, Read the hard start portion on the sight again and again. Make sure that you push the kick starter all the wat through. My bike starts on E-start when cold and does not when warm. One, occasionally two kicks starts the bike all the time.
Make sure the float shut off needle does not hang up (only a problem if the bike has been sitting and you can exchange the part or simply run the bike out of fuel before shutting it off) If needle position is by one click either way it will cause hard starting as well. Once I had these two things figured out my bike became a breeze to start.

Thanks for the input folks. Hakan, where do I find the hard start article? Would like to study that. It's probably me thats at fault rather than the bike, if it stops raining and snowing for a while I will maybe get some practise in!

I'VE CRACKED IT! Well, with a little help from this site! I was basically trying too hard, kicking the hell out of it until I was blue in the face, after readind variuos posts on here I found out the secret, slow, firm and in the right place. Upto TDC then a tiny bit past using decompressor then a firm smooth kick as far as it will go, first kick and it burbled into life.
It's easy when you know how!
Thanks all, I must go to the shed and appologise for kicking the crap out of her yesterday.
