New FS 650 rider with many mechanical questions.

Hello everyone , hope you are doing well.

About two months ago i bought a 2007 husaberg FS 650 E , in good condition at a seemingly good price . Not gonna lie to anyone , it was my teenage dream this bike so i'm pretty stoked. The bike was in good nick over all , no accidents or damage anywhere but it needed tyres , and the suspension felt a bit harsh. I suspected that has never been serviced so i took it for a full susp service front and rear, put new tyres , changed the coolant , pads(sbs rsi), brake fluid ,and did the oil and filter . The bike runs and rides great now i can't believe how easy it is to ride quickly through the corners.

As you can see , i'm loving it really right now ,but i want your help to address the elephant in the room , an that is th engine. Currenlty is clocking 530 hrs , I do the old oil change (done 3 so far)every 5hrs with 15w-60 300v (Greek summer ) and there is no issues to write about, starts on the button , no oil consumption , the oil comes out clean with very few and small rouindish metal shavings and everything works. As far as the previous owner said it has been oped up once by the first owner not him. I'm thinking about a future rebuild so I need your advice here.

A)What are the signs that "is time" ?

B)What parts should defenetly be on the list ? rod ? piston ? liner?

C) What kind of fixes or "upgrades " for reliability have you found over the factory solutions ?(as the dual valve springs for example)

Thanks in advance.

Well i would definitely do a total rebuild of engine imo with that many hours and what seems to be not so sure on the last rebuild.

As for upgrades, just search the forum. There's more than you could read through in a day with all kinds of things to make it better. One of the many to experiment with bergs and write about it is Bushmechanic and taffmeister to name two. (Edit)
Some I've read a lot about:
Main bearings, oil pump, valve springs, waterpump, 1L+ oil capacity, gearbox mods, carb stacks etc.

Search bar is your friend!

Sorry for the late reply guys . I saw and read the main bearing thread from bush mech , about the skf vs ntn , also read the (at least lively and entertaining lest's say) thread about the dual valve springs sabang, i have a good picture now. Gonna dig about oil pump next as Vandor 501 is suggesting.
So ,yeah main bearings and dual valve springs , gaskets and rod bearings are defenetly on the list but as for the other hardwear such as rods and liner, after the case's are split they should be measured if they are within spec am I correct?
Or are you suggesting a complete preemptive replacing ?
Lastly question about the piston . I have gone through many threads but after a while it got a bit confusing.
As far as i can gather ,the stock elko piston seems light and pretty good over all , the wiseco one needs mods to fit, and it's heavier thats what I understood .Also there seems to be possible to order a custom forged one (such as JE) but is this option viable? And what is the cost deference compered to stD elko one?

good luck with your chosen path......

Thanks about the enigmatic response, but I haven't chose something yet , and thats why I am here and asking about things, because I'm new to these bikes and don't really know them inside -out.

3 liters oil capacity in Husaberg

Look up search, 3 liters of oil in a Husaberg. I have 2 liters now no wet ignition yet. I have much better filtration, more than double the capacity and some cooling as well. I'm also using small amount of super slick Motorkote to improve lubricity.

The previous owner said he was using this snake additive (motorkote) for every change. On the other hand I 'm not really convinced about how and if it works .
What bennefits did you found after use?

.........snake additive (motorkote) for every change

you have got to be kidding me?:eek:

that's funny!!!!:D:D:D

perhaps it is lost in translation to a Greek but please look up 'snake oil' and maybe you'll see the joke!!!! ;););)

that is funny!

I wrote snake oil at first (because i know the joke) but i decided to take it one step further :D maybe too far it seems:p
maybe the snake will become faster with this newly invented additive

snake oil is what the carpetbaggers in the mid-west USA were selling people as a cure for EVERYTHING and it was all a load of rubbish. it has become a euphamism for selling any old rubbish (nothing) with a promise of "everything"

we get a higher class of humour when the greeks are here!
