New FE550e Break-In

Hey guys,

I tried doing a search on recommendations on the best proceedures for break-in of a new bike. I was reading and reading and found bits and pieces. So, I am wondering if we can just make up a to-do list? Should I drain the factory fill oil and just run the Delo 400 from the beginning? Should I take it easy for "X" amount of time?

I also read about main bearing failure---I didn't quite make all 19 pages of it. Is this issue something that is applicable to an 07 FE550e? If so, is there a final resolution to this problem?

I hear it is recommended to apply more grease to the steering bearings. What else should be done to eliminate any discrepancies?

thanks,

Many different opinions on this subject. from ride it like you stole it to baby it for the first 10 hours, personally, i would ride as normal minus the whacking the throttle open for a few hours. stay in the 1/4 to 3/4 throttle range for a while. don't lug it. leave the factory oil in it until it is time to change, after the first 5 hours or so. then run what ever oil you feel is best based on your research from the myriad of opinions on this site.

somebody say opinion ?

heavy acceleration and deceleration , don't let it get too hot , avoid steady throttle .

check all nuts and bolts , change oil and filter and laugh .

From the experience I have had with my 06 550, also check the swing arm bearings and get the bike checked or signed off by your Berg dealer as per the major maintenance schedule as it can get very tricky if warranty is required, like the main bearing failure.
Keep a close eye on your magnetic sump plug, if there is a increase in metal particles get the bike checked.
If your bike is running hot due to your riding area or conditions I would recommend fitting the cooling fan as added protection.
These bikes are great once you have your head around them and the setup the way you like it, now go out and have a blast like the rest of us!!

I'm curious as well. i just bought a 2008 FE550E last week (see pictures on 2008 FE550E in post last week) and i've been riding it for about 30 minutes a day for the last 8 days. my questions are:
1. when should i do the first oil change?
2. what kind of gas should i use, premuim? or regular?
3. i live in the dominican republic where it is 30celcuis everyday, 365 days a year. is it neccessary that i use full-synthetic oil in this hot climate?

i have more questions but, right now i forget them. i'm getting old.
