New bike fever...what would YOU do?

So, i have some Penny's and they are burning a hole in my pocket rather sharpish and the lure of a new bike is taking over my life!
The problem i have is i cant make up my mind what to get, I'm changing my mind more than my underpants.

My ride at the minute is an 04 450 berg and i love it, it does everything i want. I only ride trails round north Yorkshire, no racing and little on road use. I am comfortable with the maintenance and it is a very reliable bike...BUT
It will soon have clocked up 200hrs and nothing runs forever. Couple that with the fact that a rebuild could cost 75% of its value, when it goes pop it is effectively written off!

Everyone is raving about the 09 berg at the minute but the price and availability of these things has totally put me off, however i am gripped by the price of the 08 bergs. An 08 450 can be had for £4000 in the uk and that surely is a bargain, there RRP was £6000.
They look good, i know what to expect and they a cheap.

The only thing putting me off is "im spending 4k to ride something ive already got" and "am i buying a dinosaur compared with other manufacturers?"

Ive thought about jumping ship, but i think the ktm's are ugly and i hate orange
Honda's are too much for what i need, and you need to be and engineer to adjust the valves. I love the Husqvarnas but they are too expensive.

So now ive done full circle and im back to keeping my bike for another year.

Good call, but
I already own a maico and its more tempremental than an axe murderer.
It will me funding my new bike when the time comes

What about the G450x BMW, its about £5500 i thinks, and its a bit different, it comes with a two year warranty as well. if you dont go for the new berg of course!

I hate to sound like a traitor but the Beemer does look a fantastic machine having seen one in the flesh but an 08 berg is a bargain at 4k. A friend of mine bought a 650 for the same price and has done 3 enduros and about 2000 miles of road work on supermoto wheels and it's been great.

there was a big write up about in the July TBM, i think it came accross as being a nice bike although not as revelutionary as the 09 Berg, just sumink a bit different. Warrantys got to be worth it though!

keep hearing that the bmw is only! goin to be £5500 or there abouts. thats against current advertised prices of about £6100 for husky / ktms and £6400 for a berg.
if this price is right i can see a few of them being sold.

would they sell the first years production at cost or a slight loss to get them out there?

I Should be picking one up, this or next weekend. I will let you know how she goes. Probably not a subject for this site though!!

All the first ride reports in the American mags have been luke warm on the new Beemer. They say it's an ok bike, but for all of the supposedly groundbreaking technology, it's no better a total package than the current offerings by all other manufacturers.

What BMW did do right: They signed David Knight to ride the thing next year. He could win on a rusty old tricycle, much less a half-decent motorcycle.

I doubt KTM would ever let Husaberg throw big marketing dollars at a rider like Knight, and establishing instant credibility like Knight will bring to BMW when he starts winning races is priceless. Advantage BMW, compared to Husaberg, at least to the masses, not that I care. Husaberg all the way for me.

So let's assume that the 2009 Hbg is the best enduro bike ever made, even if you keep the old 'berg, you will still be riding at least the 2nd best enduro bike ever made.

Touche, TM.

Although I look forward to someday upgrading to the all new 'Berg, I guess I won't be too bothered until my riding talent supercedes my current 'Berg. Hmm, theoretically I could ride my current Husaberg the rest of my riding days. :)

This is sensible thinking touche, and very economical
i just wish my current bike would last that long
maybe it will

RE: Re: New bike fever...what would YOU do?

£6116 for a bmw in the uk according to the bmw website.

The worst part about upgrading to a new bike is you just get the old one going/handling the way you like it & then you have to start again with the new one. On the other hand a new bike is like a new mistress...beautiful to look at & still interesting to work on
