New Berg vs old Berg (08 FE 450 vs 10 FE 390)

Alright fellow Berg lovers I need some feedback. I have an 08 FE 450 that I painstakingly set up for my meager skill level (suspension, cut down/lower seat) and stature that I've had for the past year. It's my first real off road bike although I've ridden street bikes for a real long time. Love the bike, it's looks, the power, but I hate the carb.

Anyhow getting to the point of this thread I rode an FE 390 yesterday and I was amazed how much better it was.

My question is...it is worth getting a new version of the Berg over my existing 08 450? Why did the new Berg feel so much better than my 08? If was smoother, easier to handle, more pop, and I couldn't even touch the ground and I wasn't scared!

Ladybro...... why u want feed back?
Not only have you answered youre own question, but youve almost sold me on one....
But seriously..... It sounds like the 390 is not only easier but more confidence inspiring to ride, therefore you would probably be more inclined to ride further and try more challanging rides......?
No brainer really...... Do it!

Personally I prefer the big bores, probly coz im a bloke with more balls than brains (an i only got small balls) but the next bike I buy will be either 300 or 390 Berg due to all the feed back on this site.
In reality my XXX250 4t is all that is required for local offroading but its time to upgrade to old thing and the 390 offers so much versatility.
thats my cupla sence worth.

hope it helps.... Bergbro.

The new ones "feel better" because of the 70 degree motor design - the magic is in the physics. They are "smoother" because of the EFI. Enough said.

Actually, what helped convince me was watching some of the Husaberg promo videos. Do some Husaberg searches on Vimeo.com and YouTube.com and you will find some pretty impressive stuff. Plus all of the good info from these forums.

Nothing feels like a 650 trying to rip your arms off 8O but it does seem like you know the answer, its only money

Make the switch! You can probably get that 2010 FE390 for a song at this point. I'm so happy with EFI, I'm never going back to carbs. (maybe will catch me on a 2T once they go DI...)

You guys are great...

Yeah tell that to my husband who doesn't ride and worries that I'm going to hurt myself  Also, I can't find a 2010 FE 390 in my area and the 2011 are pricy plus I do think I really need the CC forks at my level.

I made the jump from an 08 450 to a 09 570 :)
I could not believe the difference the 570 was easier to ride the power delivery was great, it made me ride a lot better it did improve my confidence :) I did get a bit too cocky to soon and was thrown over the handle bars resulting in some broken ribs :-( BUT still a bloody good bike. lol

I have now finally ridden my 570 dead proper and itwaz good! it felt like my 400 so the 390 must feel great. the leccy boot is great and feels solid as in'for ever'. have to say my 400 carburates as well as the 570 and just lacks a little torque on the 570 (on soft map) but all in all a step forwards.

not sure why you would get your feet down better ladyberg though? but great if you did. I think that subconsciously we drop a cheek over the side and don't notice how we 'survive' with no problems.

regards

Taffy

FWIW, when you sit down to negotiate a price with a dealer they usually come down pretty decent on these bikes, if they don't come down enough just be prepared to walk away from the table. If you're set on getting a 2011, much better deals can be had come August, but thats a long ways away if you're really chomping at the bit. Personally it would be hard to pass up a screaming deal on 2010 (which are easy to find) and the money you save will easily pay for a pro leve suspension job by Stillwell. Just my 2cents, good luck you'll love the bike!

MaddogFE, I mistyped on the CC for the 2011 I DO NOT need them given my meager riding ability and agree that getting a 2010 is my best bet. Just having trouble finding a 390! The 450's are easy to locate but I wonder whether I need that motor over the 390.

Taffy, no I can't touch the ground on the stock 390, far from it! But I'm a MUCH better rider than last year when I first got on this forum thanks to all who've helped me  What was funny is that I redid the suspension on my old 450 and low seat height but the new 390 was still easier to ride despite the stock setup.

So inquiring minds want to know who's got a 2010 fe 390 and who wants to buy a 08 fe 450 with 80 hours on it?? 8)

You definitely don't NEED it, comes down to prefrence. If you were riding a lot of high altitude trails I could see it but it the 390 has the perfect blend of smooth tracable tourque and hp.

I made the swap from an '08 FE450 to a '11 FE570.

The technology on the 570 is absolutely great. You just know the bike will start when you need it to and power delivery is superb. The fuel consumption is a little heavy, but the 70 Degree tank sorted that.

But I actually preferred the ride of the older bike. It felt lighter and more nimble - but what do I know? I don't rate myself as a riding God by any means - just a regular guy who enjoys a few trails.

It's buried under the SUB-mount for the steering damper, but I'm certain that it's 22mm.

I surely did, a 2010 FE 450! I couldn't find a "reasonably" priced new 390 so I upsized and got the 450. I pick it up March 14th and I'm SO EXCITED!!!!!!! :bounce3:

That is great... Weird about that upsizing thing. I was getting a FE450, but somehow ended up with the FE 570. Now if the stupid mercury would climb outta the minus teens and melt some snow I'd be happy!!!

I'd bet March 14th will be a long wait for you...That's always the hard part!

BBB.

With the fuel injection...should there be any concerns with water crossings? Where I ride we often do deep crossings...up to the bottom edge of the seat on my '05 FE 550 with no problems....just wondering with fuel injection if there is little room for error if you drown your bike.

Thanks
Rob
