Hey new to the forum and new to a BRAND NEW 08 fe550 bought with no hrs on it. Bought to dual sport ride with some friends and a little trail riding. So far I love the bike, just last night we put a rekluse clutch on it. As of now i still have the stock tires Metzler on it. If anyone could tell me the best dual sport tire to do 80% dirt and 20% street I would greatly appreciate it. Also what size sprockets to run.
Not sure as to what kind of dual sport riding because i have yet to go on one. But as for the trails in and around Memphis,TN mainly dirt with very little rock a little sandy soil in Sailsbury,TN we ride at TRACE STATE PARK in Ponotoc,MS and there are quite a few large hills with a good bit of single track. At the end of the month we are going to Loretta Lynn's but that ride is only twice a year.

no decent off road tyre will take any street use. however, if you are prepared to accelerate gently on the street and make sure you only do street work after you've had 3/5 good rides on the knobblies OFF-ROAD then you can get your street stuff in and phuqemup no probs and be glad to do it. but to mix the two will just take the edges off expensive tyres.
there are some dual sport tyres that are a compromise that others here can better guide you on and even though you say where in the USA, I'm just not familiar enough with the terrian close-up.

Thanks for the info does anyone know about the pirelli mt 21 or the trackmaster 2 760.

to be street legal, I like the Pirelli as well, but only if its more street or hard pack clay roads than dirt. Mich, makes an awsume dualsport tire, however I can't remember the name. It's the one that looks like a chevy symbol in the tread.
Start with a set of Dunlop D606's. They probably are the best jack of all trades DOT knobby rubber. Definitely there are other DOT tires that are better for all dirt or all road but if you are new to things and need DOT rubber then D606's are a good starting point
