Just Been For A Quik Blast On The 400 As It Was Getting A Little Hard To Start,Once It Was Hot And Been Thrashed Down The Road And A Few Fields And Lanes Everything Was Fine.......Until I Came Home And Couldnt Find Neutral With The Engine Running :( .
My Son Thinks It May Be A Worn Clutch Basket As His Mates 2 Smokes Used To Do This When They Were Worn.
Is This A Common Problem Or Is This Likley To Be Something Else? :?

I have problem to find Neutral too. In the trail you find it but not when you will stop. In Taffy's document in the beginning of the General section there are something written about this. Could be worn clutch basket or some edges on the gear shift selector. I think they have changed to a harder material in the selector since my -02. Down load the -04 workshop manual from Husaberg.se. If you have a -02 you only take the left hand transmission cover off, take the clutch spring screws and away, take the circlip away and pull out the clutch basket. If you have a -04 I think you need to take a nut away. Then you probably need to lock the rotor or use a gear wheel segment but that is written in the -04 workshop manual. Don't forget the waterpump.

I don't know but probably there could be other problems as well. However, it's easy to do and you will see the condition of the parts.

How about first bleeding the Hydraulic clutch to make sure that it's pushing the pressure plate all the way out?? Have you ever bled the Hydraulic clutch since you bought the bike??

I have a 2001 501 with almost 3 seasons of desert racing on the original clutch. When the bike was new I switched over from mineral to Automatic Transmission Fluid in the Hydraulilc actuator, and have never had one problem with the clutch. Upon engine rebuild the shop said the clutch looked and spec'ed out fine.

Sometimes when you're sitting still and want neutral, try blipping the throttle while you attempt to find neutral, as the rev's are coming back down you will find it easy to get it into neutral.

As far as I know it is a Husaberg thing. I can never get into neutral on my 97 600 when the motor is running. On my 01 470 it is possible but requires patience.

All 3 of mine are difficult to find neutral in while running. 2 I have owned since brand new. It's a Husaberg thing. I can find neuetral if I fiddle around long enough, but usually it's just not worth it.

What I've been told "And this is from some KTM racers" You have a racers transmission and they want neutral to be hard to find. This is most likely a bunch of BS.

If you get into the habit of clicking it into neutral while still rolling it is much easier.

Kez

The document shows that the clutch drum is the problem as it's made of aluminium and the basket of (i guess) steel. this will be the source of your problem.

the gear selector 'stuck' on the '02s badly but it comes through your foot as finding NO GEARS or having to KICK BACK THE WAY YOU CAME.

totally different.

please acknowledge the help the people on this site give you-always makes us all feel better!

I'm with Brad,
if you clicking it into neutral while still rolling it is much easier.
If the bike sits still with the engine running try a slight tap down
from the 2nd into neutral.

maddel and brad

you are literally describing what i used to do. just like you. identical.

one clutch drum later-not cheap-neutral isn't even an issue. at all. not a sausage. 100% cure.

i'm right or your money back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Taffy
