No, they are not readily available, regardless of what dealers may sometimes say. In the 8 years that I have been doing this, I've watched many threads progress, from are they out there, yeah, the dealer's getting some, they're running late, why aren't they available yet only to fade into oblivion. My suggestion to everyone is if you want one, and find one for sale:

By desert tank, do you mean the 19L unit? If so, I have one on my '98 600. I just went down to my local dealer, ordered it, and in a couple weeks it was on the bike. It was my birthday present last year, so I don't know what the availability is now. Although it does hold a lot of go juice, it doesn't affect the overall balance of the bike too much. Real easy to get used to.
