ive just had a day on a motocross track a small very tight one, my lap time was around 1 min 48 on my fe 450 it was very dry and dusty and i had a lot of wheel spin but had a great day
but a couple of my friends on smaller bikes hammered my lap time they rode ktm's a 200 and 250f and took 10 seconds of my time am i garbage or what!! or did they have an advantage on the tiddlers or do i need more practice i mean i luv my berg it handles great and wouldnt change it 4 the world
whats your thoughts?

you just can't throw a berg around like the bikes they have. they weigh 100lb less and the riding position and suspension are set up for that kind of work. unless you are twice as fit as them and force the bike to do things you tend to 'wait' for the bike to do it - they grab the horns of that thing and tell it what it's doing.

that's the difference 100lb makes.

suspesnion makes a huge difference as well. you have to be gentle or you would bottom out, you have to wait for the suspension to settle before opening the throttle - they don't!

finally, you look at any open MX race run by regular blokes and the 125 is leading, indeed it's down to the rider of course but the 125 is more than capable.

But you had fun and you are happy with your bike right?

That's what counts in my book.

Even if I was so inclined (I am not) I am more about having fun on my bikes than I am about competing with anybody, and at 55 I am too old to compete with most everybody anyway. I would be worn out after half a lap on an MX track, much less and Enduro and I enjoy seeing the sights and smelling the flowers than I am about catching air.

To each their own, but have fun while doing it.

I agree with Taffy - weight is the great Satan - especially off-road. That's why I bought my Whoosaburger rather than a Husky dual sport.

Speed is your friend for the bigger bikes on a track. You can't throw a 450 around like you can a 250 and not get REALLY tired. Practice keeping your cornering speed up, ride SMOOOOOOOTH. Don't go for as much point and shoot, as much as just flowing through the corners.

That's about all I got.....

If you can, watch a film of Everts, he is really fast through corners.....

I've been riding a lot of track lately with my CRF450R. Suspension is set up for my weight
and to take a big hit off a jump. And yes the track wears you out quick at first, but will
build stamina.
I wouldn't think about bringing my FE 650 there. Suspension is set up for off road and I am
very comfortable there on it. Get it nasty, rutted and yucky and the Berg is King.
Get jumps, whoops and berms like on the track and the light motocross bike is
the best choice.
