There are two on ebay right now, does a 99 fc501 fit a 94 fe600? It looks like these are aluminum? (Mine is plastic...)

Thanks

99 has the stator inside the cover, 94 has the stator inside the flywheel, but i'll bet the bolt pattern is the same. would prolly have to grind off the mounting tabs on the 99 to clear the flywheel, tho. it'd be easier to deal with a pre-99

How do you mean the cover is warped?

Its just a plastic cover that's bent. It doesn't allign with the engine case, so there's a big gap that'll let water and dirt in.

Okay, that's what I figured.

I had the same problem with the cover on my 94 501. When I went to buy a new cover the shop owner had a suggestion, that for me, worked out great in the long run. Using a flat surface and a sheet of like 40 or 60 grit sand paper, lay the paper on the flat surface, and then take your ignition cover, motor side down of course, and start making figure 8's on the sand paper. Eventually you will have removed enough material to make it flat and fit flush up against the engine again.

If you wish you can finish the job off with some 120 grit to make the surface a bit smoother. Apply a thin coat of three bond 1211 to provide a water tight seal.

Don't forget to drill a breather hole in the bottom of the stator cover, 3-4 mm. Seal them when refitting, but the breather hole will help reduce the moisture build up inside. Even in deep water crossings, if the only way in is the breather, but the air can't get out, then very little water gets in and will dry/drain out quickly after anyway. SEMs don't like moisture so coat the SEM in vaseline or wp grease too.
