my new bike

is it a fc or fe as the seller wasnt sure ?
are the graphics some sort of race replica ?
i must say i have only had a little ride today and its a beast !

You can check the vin number, its on the steering head behind the number plater, its stamped into the frame, it should say fe600 or fc600 right in the vin number, also check the 'owners doc' at the far left of the homepage, under year recogntion, the tenth digit is the year code i think and in the doc there is a graph to figure it out.
the fe's have a long tank on the right side where yours is short, so i would guess fc by appearance. also the graphics could be some kind of race replica's i know that in the usa at least they did not come with those graphics and they do resemble some of the race bike pic's i have seen. i think some companies made the replicae graphics kits back in the day but no longer do.

The fe gas tank held more fuel, i think they came with different gear ratios in the transmission and sproket rations too, the fe had 15/42 and the fc 15/48??? the fc also may have had a slightly more aggressive camsahft profile. the shocks came with different recomended clicker settings. The fe also has electric start and a headlight.

there was another post on here recently that explains the differences i am just going off memory with that last one

I almost forgot welcome you to the forum! dont forget to change your oil a lot and keep it full  there is a ton of info in the owners doc and on this forum. a lot of things are the same with you bike and other husabergs expecially 501's and 600's the differences are minor really and most all what applies to newer ones will apply to yours too. you can get some manual downloads from husaberg.com - click the download tab and service manuals for spare parts manuals and owners manuals.

thanks for that, yep my first job it to change the oil, its 1L of 5w50 i beleive.
i have read lots of horror stories about the bottom ends giving up, should it be ok with regular oil changes ?

Hi
Congratulations, great looking bike :bounce3:

From what I can see, your bike has a smaller tank (wich looks very good, I would like one of those) and different front suspension (don't think that is the original one, if you whant I have one for you).

how do you know it has a different cam and gearbox ?
any links with a how to change the oil and filter ? if it has a filter !
should i use 5w50 oil ?

Great bike....nice to see the older models still in action.Looks exactly the same as my '98 FC600.Yours certainly has different forks, mine has the WP Extremes and WP rear shock.Your frame number shoud be on the headstock to confirm what it is
I change oil and filter every 10 hours and check valve clearances every 20 hours. Had it for 2 years now, just had a Sparks rewind on the SEM stator and it's made a world of difference, easy to start and runs fantastic. Other than that its been very reliable so far.
What gearbox does yours have? Options are wide ratio 4 speed, wide or close ratio 6 speed IIRC

gixergav, your wheels are awsome....

whiteakita, to change the oil and filter there is the oil drain on right side bottom of engine, it requires a 13mm socket and a ratchet, the filter is also on the right side just behind the cylinder, its cover is about 2" around and comes off by removing the two allen head screws. one tip to remove the cap would be to use a bolt and thread it into the hole in the center of the cap, this will give you leverage and usually just wiggling and pulling the bolt and the cover will pop out, to get the cover out you will also need to remove the clutch cable from the lever just to get better access. if you look at gicergav's picture below you can see the red cover over the oil filter just behind the bottom of the cylinder, the drain plug is between the stator cover and the front sprocket.

i change the oil and filter every 7-10 hours but i also change the oil every 2-4 hours, i wouldnt recomend going past 5 on an oil change, then just change the filter every other oil change or a max of ten hours.
i use retella-t 15w-40 non-synthetic diesel engine oil along with a lot of other people, it is very cheap compared to synthetic 5w-50 and people have been using it long engough it can be fully trusted in my opinion, and its cheap enough you dont have to worry about 2-5 hours oil changes. these engines are good as long as the oil is kept clean and full. if it gets negelcted or low, things that make bad loud bang noises can happen

also i try to change the oil when engine is still warm because it will flow out better, and as a side note the easiest way to fill it IMO is to put the plug in and filter cover back on, then lean the bike against the wall or something on its right side so its slanted, then i just take a 1 quart bottle filled to the top with rotella-t and dump it in and your done, ride it some and then recheck the level. recheck it before every ride and top up as needed. i am sure by filling the bottle to the top it has a tiny bit more than a liter but its better then being low. also you can check out the "engine breather mod" if you notice oil in your airbox and oil level that keeps going low repeatedly.

thanks very much this is a great help to me, can someone post a link from ebay as to which oil filter i need ?
also i have read that during the oil change that there are banjo bolts that have screens under them that need to be cleaned, does this apply to the fc600?

hi all, i went to go out on the bike today a fc600, i changed the oil, topped up the water and the rear brake fluid.
it took me about 3 kicks to start it and after a minute of running i turned it off.
around 15 mins later i tried to start it and it would try to start but wouldnt and backfired a few times, this went on for around 30 mins until it eventually started and then would start easily after that !
i left the bike idling for 10 mins and noticed that there was some light brown fluid trickling out or a small round hole next to where the water pipe goes into the engine ,then i noticed that water/steam was coming out of the overflow on the rad !
i thought maybe i had overfilled the radiator so left it for another 5 mins idling but it just kept on coming out so i have turned the bike off and could hear the water bubbling like mad in the rads.
has it overheated ? can it be over filled ? can i let the bike sit idling without it overheating ?
i have had many 2 stroke motocross bikes before and none of them have overheated no matter how slow or how long they are stationary idling, maybe because they have a simple fan on them !

I think you were idling your bike too long. Don't forget you have no airflow when it is idling. I would make sure fluids are good, change the gas too. Ride it for 10 minutes and compare to what happened last tine. It might just need a run to clean it out. The small hole is the weep hole. SomeOne with more experience than me should chime in on this. Nice looking bike btw. Hard starting may be your stator. Enjoy.

thanksain guys i wont leave it idling.
i have just uploaded a video on youtube showing the flames out of the seps exhaust :)

i forgot to mention at idle the was a slow intermittant ticking noise coming from the left hand side of the engine which after searching seems to be a cam chain tensioner problem ? are these easy to change for a novice ?

Its the chain. You can check if the tensioner its extended, take out the spring first, then the tensioner, and check it. That is easy.
You might whant to check the blade also, and the cam sprocket for wear (its aluminium).
For that and to change the chain its a moderate easy job, you have to take out the rockers cover and the clutch cover.
Do you know what is TDC ?
I can't tell you if it will be easy or not for you.
