I just got my new 2010 FE390, what a great bike! I did have a few issues with it in the beginning which I will get into, but now things have sorted themselves out and I am happy. The last 2 bikes I owned were a WR250F, then I went to a WR450F. I had decided to go for the 390 because the 450 was too big and the 250 didn’t have enough power for me. I am a smaller guy, 5 foot 8 and 150 lbs, and i really like the feel of the 390 so far! For me it feels just like riding a big mountain bike. It is very quick and responsive in the single track, has plenty of power on the open stuff, and just performs well all around. Today I did my first ride with the mapping switch, and couldn’t believe the difference it can make! In the level 1 setting, it was like riding a little tractor! I did some hill climbs that my 450 had struggled on. In the stock map setting, i found the power delivery and throttle control was nice and smooth and had a very nice feel. In the Power setting the bike had tons of pop and the front wheel would lift with the slightest twist of the throttle! The bike is heavy to lift if it falls over, but when you are riding it is so nimble and sure footed I couldn’t believe the stuff I was gliding over! The only complaint or problem I have had with it seems to be a semi common one for some 390 owners out there. At about hour 2 on the hour meter, the bike started to back fire and have quite a lean pop to it. I also noticed a little funny white residue in the top of the fuel tank as well, and then towards the end of the ride, the bike was stalling and sputtering. I took it back to the shop I bought it at (Duncan Motor sports) and the guys took it apart for me only to discover that the fuel filter was completely clogged with a strange white substance. They were quick to act, and Husaberg expedited a new fuel pump, new injectors and filter for me, which were all installed under warranty. They also cleaned out the tank and blew out the lines for me, and now it runs sweet with no problems at all. A friend of mine came riding with me today for his first ride on his new FE390 as well, and because he knew of my previous issue, he pre-cleaned his tank which did contain some of the white stuff, and he had no problems what so ever with the filter. One other semi down side for me being shorter is that I notice that this bike stands quite tall. However, it is so easy to ride that I rarely ever have to dab my feet, so I don’t even notice the height. Also I put on the low seat offered by Husaberg, and now at least I can toe down if needed. I would definitely recommend this bike to anyone who wants a fun, fast woods bike!
