Some of you may know I just bought a 2011 Fe570. I have been busy and haven't really been able to do anything with it until today.

Went for a good ride with it being the weather warmed up and I had some free time. Tried to start it and nothing. Dead battery I thought? It seemed to start just fine when I tested it. Took the battery out and put it on the charger. Not even a hr later it was full...

Put it back in and again very little to nothing. Hit it two more times and than there it was working. Got the bike running. Let it sit to warm up. Cant believe how quiet these bikes are.

Went for a ride and when I got back I noticed the bike felt rather hot considering I hadn't gone that far. And the fan hadn't kicked in at all. Dosent look like its switched.

I put my had around the back of the exhaust and I couldn't believe how hot the exhaust coming out of the muffler was. Is this normal for these bikes?

I also noticed on the ride how stiff the shifting was. When I was parking it I couldn't even find any sign of a neutral. And with the clutch in I could feel the bike pulling. Looks like I need to adjust the clutch aswell.

Are these issues normal? Or dose anything sound like it could be a problem?

If you have the standard exhaust its restrictive as hell and instead of the heat going straight out the back it radiates out of the exhaust system. This will warm the fuel tank and can make issues with the longevity of the fuel pump.

The clutch does not have any adjustment, sounds like you need to bleed it. Neutral is hard to find at a standstill normally.

Thanks, realizing now that I know very little about these bikes and there characteristics.

Any information about them would be much appreciated. I think I will see if I can de-cork the exhaust. It's just not something I am used too, kinda freaked me out.
Plus, its got the 70 degreee sub-frame tank so the less heat from the exhaust the better.

And let me apologize for all the questions ahead of time.

I am also looking for advice on a fix for a kickstand mount. The shaft that the kickstand slides onto broke off.

I think I will look the whole bike over now. Just to be safe. The starter is still sporadic. I will see if its just a loose connection somewhere or if I need to rebuild the starter. "could be the cold its got that tinny Shorai battery in it."

they get hot, new exhaust will help a lot. i bought a sxt ktm 450 exhaust for me, straight through pipe and not too loud and bolts right on.
Starter is another problem with the auto decompression cam the lobe doesn't line up right and causes hard starting, only happened on a few of them.
do a search on here theres a thread about it somewhere.

Because they get hot it effects the clutch fluid causing it to boil and clutch becomes sticky, sort the underlying problem of overheating and clutch will be fine. give it a bleed and good to go. there loads of threads about on the clutch aswell.

Finding neutral is an acquired skill, you'll be fine! And the clutch does drag when the oil is cold.

To land in neutral, it helps to have some forward motion. Seems to be slightly easier from 2nd gear than first ..? I learned these tricks from the good people here iirc - it becomes second nature to kind of "help" it down out of 2nd with light pressure as you come to a stop.

If when stopped you want into neutral, just apply pressure on the lever and rock the bike a little - physically or by liiiightly clutching in and back out.

Not easy to describe in few words but it becomes a comfortable second nature.

there's a thread on altering some markets' stock muffler - will find! - edit - can't find the one I had in mind but it's been discussed a bit so good info available ..

Really need to know if this Muffler will fit my Fe570. He has three and only $50 each. I would prefer one that would help the most will opening up the exhaust to get rid of that heat.

looks promising at least ... try searching for "ktm exhaust 570 site:husaberg.org" on Google for some reasonably interesting hits

Yeah I did some searching. Finally found it would mount. I am going to bleed the clutch, swap mufflers from a KTM 450 SXF "Hoping it will fix the heat" and while I am at it. I plan to check the valves. Not that I don't trust what the seller said.

I am also fixing the breather vent from the 70 degree aux tank by connection it to the main tanks.

Other than that I just need to fix that kickstand and I should be all good to go.

I have been looking into SM wheels and am having a hard time deciding. I would like the crush drive with tubeless. But I will buy tubed if I must. Than convert them to tubeless later.

Will probably end up doing the 17" x 5" with a 160 tire in the rear. Sounds like it should fit just fine. Still would feel better seeing what kind of gap it would leave.

Not sure if I will go with the OEM FS wheels because of how much they cost and the fact they only come in a 4.25" rear.

Hardest part is finding a set of wheels with the crush drive on it. I may have to buy the hub from KTM than build it from there.

As soon as I sell the KX I will order the wheels/parts.
Really would prefer to keep these tires at $1,500 and under. I already know I am blowing the budget but I feel like I should invest in this bike. "Wishing I bought a FS new..."

Well, I've been busy and haven't been able to get much done on the Berg. I missed that 450 ktm muffler...

I found a 250 muffler. Think that would work? Not sure if I would need to remap the bike or not. I just want a better muffler that dosent build up so much heat really. The stock muffler is terrible.

Wheels have been driving me nuts. I'm going to look into a slipper clutch instead of a crush hub. Even more costly...

we might be able to deduct - if the KTM guys can use 250 mufflers on the 450s, then ...

Had a look at modifying the stock muffler? if it's hard finding one to buy at a price you like, then modification could work? there are quite a few threads around here on it

Thanks I'll check it out

Anyone have any recommendations for cleaning clutch covers? Mine is really "weathered" I was looking at it and it almost looks painted. Or possibly a clear coat over it. Normally I would just pop it off and polish it. But I am not sure if I would be removing any important coats covering it. Also, I don't think I even want to remove it to clean, being I don't think I could get a new gasket and I don't like reusing gaskets. Any recommendations?

Really feeling like a fish out of water with this bike. Everything about it feels foreign to me and I am just being overly cautious about everything.

I use acid based wheel cleaners and they work great. Be cautious though as it is very caustic and should be diluted with water until you find the correct mixture. Don't leave it on to long as it will etch. It does make anything magnesium turn dark. But it does clean up the look of worn dirty parts quite nice. It also make for a nice new clean surface to paint. I use a 50/50 mixture on my engine after each clean and it keeps it looking new and fresh. Don't get it on anything anodized as it will etch bad. It is great on any aluminum as it will make it look new again. 10 second rule is what I use. 10 seconds and rinse with water. then wash and rinse again.

ok so I am buying a FMF Ti 4.1C muffler for my Berg. Anyone think I should remap the bike? The muffler was meant for a KTM 505.

legend has it that there's a "competition map" designed for the more open Akrapovic exhaust ... not sure if it's a full system or just a muffler but afaik you want that map in anyway - and some dealers drop it right in anyway

Well, I got the pipe on, took a little modifying. The mounting bracket was hitting my Aux tank.

First thing: No matter what I cant get this thing to completely seal. It seems to have a small leak in the back off the mounting point. I used some High temp mesh and High temp Silicon and cant get that little spot to seal. Might need to get an exhaust clamp.

I decide to take it for a little ride and just see how things are going. Well, It is flowing ALLOT more and is allot louder...Might get a DB killer for it.

But, that heat still seems to be present. Maybe that's just how these bikes are IDK. Just not used to that much heat.

I think I will get the bike remapped just to be safe. Though, It already has the Three way mapping switch on it.

While I am at the Dealer I plan on having them do a valve check.
I was going to do a compression check because of how weak the exhaust flow was before but now it seems like the bike has good compression. Wasn't even sure how to do it with the compression release this bike has.

Last thing, Not that I dont trust other people's workmanship. But, How do I test the Radiator fan and Map switch to make sure they are working the way they should? That fan hasn't turned on yet. And the bike does have two sets of wires not connected to anything...
