My FE400 loses power at high rpm.

I very happy for my FEE400 98, i followed the hard to start manuel, and it now start at the button. On small traks its perfect, but when i run at large field i feell it stops rewing to early. I run standard all the way, and have tried with more timing advancing without any change.

I know its not a 2 stroke, i have always ridden large 4-strokes.
Currently a KTM with 600ccm Rotax engine, witch easyly rews at higher rpms.

What could be the problem, or is this normal behaviour.

gearing-classic mistake of being overgeared and thinking it should pull 150KPH-it won't so is it gearing?

tappets-if loose they will kill the top end.

are you saying the bike deteriorated or was never good from when you bought it?

Hello.

The bike is like when i bought, nothing seems wrong before i hit the open road.
I ride 13/48 gearing.
The valves is adjusted to 0,1 mm. Is that what you mean by "loose tappets".

I dont expect 150kph, but even in the lower gears it dies early.
On a 600 i dont think i need the high rpm´s, but a 400 has less buttom.
The drag from the Airfilter/carb sound very loud when it reach the top.

the 400 has to be revved to get it to work. i can't think what the problem is except that if you wanna be quicker on the open road; you need to gear it up with a 14T front.

the other thing to do is to organise to meet someone from UHE and swop rides.

where are you from?

I am From Denmark, so its gonna be a long ride to the US.

I must try to locate another Husaberg here in Denmark.

Thanks anyway.

Jesper,

From your description it sounds like your bike is not revving all the way up. I think the 400 should rev pretty good. I have a 99 501 and it revs like crazy.

I have had problems revving out for an extended time in 6th occasionally and I think it has to do with improperly set up carburation. But you are describing lower gears which should just be short bursts of full rpm running.

Clean the carb, look at all jets and needles for wear and make sure to set the float bowl heights correctly.

Good luck,

is right. the carb could be running lean. but why i dunno. the dell orto carb is notorious for wearing out it's internal parts. a new needle, atomizer, MJ and PJ wouldn't go amiss. even the choke jet.

main jet needs to be 190+ i think. make sure the slide completely disappears from view.

If it has a Dellorto flat slide, those things are real sensitive to elevation changes. I thought the 98 400 had a round slide, but maybe it's an early one. Anyway, the previous owner could have jetted it for higher elevation and a lean main/needle will make it really flat on the top.

It is a Dellorto 38mm Roundslide. Jetting is Mj 195, PJ 52, Needle K35,Throttle 50, Startjet 45, Clip in 3#. Float bowl adjusted.

I have tried to advance the ignition, without any change.

your carb is fine. look elsewhere. take it to a dealer and ask them or an husey rider to test ride it.
