My bike took a drink of water

I have a Husa 08 550. it took a drink of water this weekend in a river crossing. I managed to get it started and back to the truck, it was not running well at all but got better as i got closer to the truck. Apart from changing the oil and the filter, I'm not sure of all the appropriate steps to take to make sure I'm water free.

Typically you just need to make sure that all of the water is out of the motor. Once that is done change the air filter or in your case clean it. If you bike was running when it went under you could have bent a rod. Along with the other stuff that I wrote about. Drop the bowl on the carb. And install a new plug.
If it is still running bad. Do a compression test.

if you get water in the oil, it turns to a chocolate milkshake. unmistakable (and undrinkable).

Chances are you just got some water in the carb. Sounds like it may have sucked most of it out. Probably still a good idea to change the oil and drop the float bowl as Hair suggested.
