Since I bought my 05 650E, I have had 6 practices and 2 races here in Victoria, British Columbia. I must say that the 650 is an absolute monster on the track! I have gotten used to the transition from dirt to pavement, which is a little un-nerving. I have been running the stock Michelin Pilot Powers and must say that the work not to bad on hard pack dirt, and of course allow me to reach max lean angles on fast sweepers. Not to many of the really fast guys can even drag their knee. I have found that I am faster with my knee down verses mx style in certain corners, and of course other corners I have to put foot out. I have also learned to feather my clutch to keep the rear wheel from locking up on those hard braking sections-gearing down from 4th to 3rd. There are 3 technical 2nd gear 180 degree hair-pins wich have caused some problems as we go from pavement to dirt to pavment and hit the apex. This is where I have low sided several times.
I had my first BIG crash last Wednesday where I landed from a 30 foot table top and transitioned to pavement just past the landing. I changed lines to set up for the dirt berm/whoop section and the front started to tuck on the pavement (due to the dirt that was dragged on to) which caused major tankslaper which caused me to highside. I came down on my left side hitting the pavement and bouncing several times. I layed on the track not knowing how busted up I may be? After a rush of helpers came, I got up and collected myself to find no broken bones! Just severe whiplash, pulled groin, sprained shoulder, bruised knees, and a bruised back. I was lucky! If I was not wearing my Spyke leather suit I definitely would not be here typing! The bike was unscathed! Not a scratch on the plastic or pipe-thanks to the axle sliders, and Fastway Aluminum hand guards. I realized how much the pavement can hurt!
So after a BIG crash and a couple of low sides there still are no scratches on the bike! My only complaint is the shift lever! Every time I have gone down on the left side the lever has been pretzeled into the case. It is a ***** to straighten without worrying about bending the shift shaft. So how do you guys solve this problem? Last night I lowsided 2 corners before the checkered flag, managed to grab the clutch before stalling the engine to find out the shifter jammed in high gear against the case. This is annoynig, and cost me 5 positions!....I know....don't crash, but there has got to be a solution to the shift lever? Are there any stronger ones available?
Anyways thanks for any help, and our Husabergs rock! And by the way I lost my skid plate even after locktite on the threads, any better skidplates on the market than the Husaberg one?
One more thing I forgot to add: why the hell does the chain rub the frame just before the countershaft? If you all look on the inside of the frame you'll see what I am talking about! Is this a problem to be concerned about or will the chain eventually wear through the frame? Are there any guards being used to stop this?
