Hey all, I'm new to the site. I'm a 47yr old 6"4" 225lb Vet mxer. I had some injuries so my finish at the front of the pack days are most likely over, that's ok, I'm in it for fun, just want to race with my ole buds :D. I recently dusted off my 06 KX450 and raced a vet class out back, had a blast, never thought I'd be able to do it again. I'm really interested in a hold over 2010 FX450 Berg with some extras included. Sweet looking bike with good usable power it looks like... A vet mx bud of mine races a CR450X and is very happy with it, gotta run for now but any help, suggestions are much appreciated, Happy Riding 8)

The FX is a great bike, and the rider will still make the most difference, but with two equally skilled riders a real motocrosser will have a pretty big advantage on a MX track. The heaviest motocross four stroke is still 20 pounds lighter than the FX, and the FX suspension, while valved stiffer than the FE, is still pretty soft for real MX. The close ratio gear box on the FX is moto-ready, though.

The FX makes a better all around ride though, by far, if you ever venture off the moto track and do other types of off road riding. I love mine. Oh and comparing it against your friend's 450X, I'd say you have an advantage everywhere, except maybe racing the Baja 1000.

Thanks Johnf3, That's pretty much what I wanted to hear..lol. I'm usually a gear high just about everywhere on my KX, so I'm not riding it anywhere near it's potential.. The FX450 has a extra goodies deal that includes a full factory connection suspension re valve including springs, FMF slip on muffler, map switch, extra filter... I think this is a factory incentive to move some left overs and they're dropping off the MSRP quite a bit. Hopefully getting the suspension set up for a beat up mid pack vet mxer will make it a little more MX worthy, while not completely ruining it's fine traits on the trail, I will probably spend more time play riding than racing MX. If I can get my body back into shape maybe a hare scramble is in the future too. Our local club has the 43rd annual Turkey Run.. 2hr Hare scramble Nov21st. The track used is about a 4 mile loop and pretty fast in sections, we just don't have any forests around here.. But it's always fun if you like that type of layout :D (http://www.jeepscycleclub.com)

Will standard bar risers fit and are taller seats available for the FX ? The dealer is about 250 miles away, but they are a KTM/Berg dealer mainly. It sounds like the engine is reliable, I'll have to get the tricks/must do's for service. Are the sprockets, brake pads anything odd ? on that CRX, were you saying the Berg is a much better bike or my current KX? (just wanting you to say the Berg..lol) Listen, thanks again, I'll post again on my decision as which direction I went on this. I need to decide soon, cuz Sometimes ya snooze, ya ......

there's a lad named Bixby races MX with one here in the UK. He does it seriously as well and wins. he put factory suspension in it and has had to fit DVSKs as he was dropping valves.

he is a winner on his. I mention him in late July when at a british sidecar cross meeting. I have a thread on SCX running in race reports.

I have the OEM tall seat--other aftermarket options exist if you want. I like the Enduro Engineering bar risers. You can configure them to give from 5 to 30 mm of rise. Pretty slick set up. Wear parts like pads, sprockets, etc are standard KTM. So is most of the motor. As far as if the bike is better than "this bike" don't fret too much. You are already used to riding four strokes--I think you will be happy.

I'd like to find out more about his set up and forgive me for being a little slow, but what is/are DVSK's?

Thanks again to both of you, I posted on Thumpertalk under "Exotics" and have gotten some good input as well. http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showth ... p?t=932106 I guess that's why I've always been drawn to motorcycle people, always helpful and We, the motorcycle community, know something every body else doesn't...

Sweet. Let us know how you get along.
I sure will, I'm like a kid at Christmas, always cool to get a new bike, seems like every 4 or 5 yrs for me (on the dirt bikes) :D
I'm also excited to be getting my first Husaberg, I've know of them forever, just don't seem them around here.. My first 4 stroke was a 1978 TT 500 Yamaha, then a TT600 (85 or 86 maybe..) Then a 1998 YZ400, next was an 01YZ426, next a 06 KX450 now the 2010 FX450 with a few 2 strokes in between as far as dirt goes...

Thought I better update for those interested...
Made the 9 hr round trip Saturday, I'm always up for a road trip : )
Finally got to see the FX450 up close, wow, what a beautiful machine!!
Dwight and the guys at 417 Power sports in Springfield Mo are Just Great!!
We went down for the Berg and also brought back a 04 CRF150F for my girl friend...lol, she's got an xr100 but we'd already been talking about a 150, fits her better and she loves it. Back the the FX450, got'r home and took the first 15min break in ride, 1/4 throttle and all, still need to do a couple more and then an oil change. Hoping to get that done this week... I jammed up my back pretty good while practicing in Oklahoma the weekend before going to get my new bike. I'm still pretty sore so my Brand new FX450 is just sitting waiting for me to ride it.... it's killing me...Ugh!!! It may be a few weeks (I hope that's all) before I can really get a good impression of the bike... Sorry no Action pics yet, Just one of the FX in my truck on the way home.. I'll post again as soon as I really get to ride it 8)
Thanks again for the opinions, help and suggestions

Well, maybe I should have stayed off the MX track, or at least not try to be a young daredevil, especially considering my previous back surgery. got the call from the Dr's office this morning as I'd had x rays done last Thurs after my "incident" on my other bike the weekend before. I have a L-2 compression fracture and some movement around the other vertebrates that were fused with rods in 08. They are going to do Kyphoplasty to try and repair it. I don't see the surgeon until next Thurs. I probably should have given it up and maybe should. But as soon as I felt good enough to ride, I did, and may again, can't help it. I love off road riding and racing.... For now my new bike will sit until I see what the outcome of this is. My MX days may be over, but I my have the perfect bike to just go have fun on. If I can ride, I will, even if it's just play riding, I hope I can.
I'll resurrect this thread when I have a chance to Ride the beautiful FX450
Thanks again for your input 8)

I have the fmf on my FX, it sounds awesome while not being too loud. 3 things I did to my Berg that made a great difference were 1) remove the plastic pea in the gas cap and drill the hole larger to help with venting
2) removed the head and mid pipe and had them ceramic coated ( a thermal barrier coating called ceramakrome) for $85.00, reduced pipe temps from 1000 degrees to around 500.
3) P3 pipe guard in carbon fiber, it covers more pipe than the HB part and I know you need to cover it as I melted some new moose pants against the pipe before ordering a guard.
Other things I did which are more related to the riding I do (hare scrambles) were a Scotts damper,EE sharkfin,Guts soft seat foam,an 8.0 wp spring,Flex bars, speed bleeders,a HB map switch set on agressive, a 53t renthal sprocket, barkbusters and a brake snake.

Good news, I saw a real back surgeon, The compression fracture was one of the old injuries, so no knew injuries, just jammed it pretty good.
We had a local Hare Scramble this past weekend and I had already done the 1 hr service/break in before going to the track.
I wasn't up for the race but I was a roaming track official. I was able to ride the track off and on. I had also installed the FMF silencer, I sure like the sound!!
There were a few table tops in the loop, the FX450 felt good in the air, turned nicely in the tight stuff, felt controllable and put the power to the ground.
I still have the suspension set up for me to do. I added 15mm risers but I'm going to put CR highs on also. I'm really looking forward to more testing.
I think this bike and I are gonna get along just fine 8)
Thanks again for the help and input, I've still got to make some other fine tuning on the advise I've heard here on UHB
Oh yeah, after riding through some of the tighter sections, the little voices in my head keep say'n Rekluse, Rekluse...

I absolutly love my Rekluse Pro in my FX450. But I think I'm going to try out the new Core EXP.

Thanks guys, I'm not sure about the hand brake as we don't have a lot of tight stuff around here and I think I'd like to be able to over ride the auto clutch if needed as well as a little harder hit with the type of riding I do around here.
I'm just in the thought stage of an auto clutch right now, but you know what that leads to...
Here is a good test article on the EXP
http://www.motocrossactionmag.com/Main/ ... -5185.aspx
Both the the Rekluse Core EXP
http://www.rekluse.com/core_exp.shtml
or the the Revloc MXP look good
http://www.revloc.com/index.cfm/id/13/MXP-Clutch/
I'll do a search and see if I can find a straight up comparison between the two..

Taffy, you got any input ?, I missed the Indy 500 this year,it was one channel down.. but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night
