MSO / title questions

MI
I recently bought a used berg. I live in mi and bought it from a mi resident and paid him cash for the bike. He bought it out of state. He gave me the mso for it and we wrote up a purchase agreement showing what i paid. Well, i decided i need to finance it and my credit union needs the title. Can i give them the mso with my purchase agreement and they can list themselves as the lein holder or do i have to get the title first? I really hope i can get it titled without posting tax on the original price he paid.
Thanks

pretty much everywhere has there own stipulations, likely nobody gonna know that one till you ask, title problems seem to be a case by case kind of problem, if you dont suceed ask someone else and maybe you will get what you want from them. dmv people are weird, some very strict, others do not really care, good luck

Heres the fact, If the MSO is filled out in the original purchasers name then that person needs to legally title it in their name before you can obtain a title. also that original purchaser should have paid sales tax when they bought it new and the MSO should be stamped showing that the tax has been satisfied. So you have have have to get the org. owner to title it then sign the title over to you and you title it in in your name. Also you may have the org. owner give you a power of attorney to do the title work for him and then re-title it to yourself

Yes, you should be able to pass through the MSO, they will most likely ask for a copy of the original bill of sale, to see that some one paid tax on it regardless of the state.

Like the other guys said, if you don't get the answer you like at one DMV try another one in a smaller community, some are by the book and some seem to make up the rules as they go.

i'm headed to the dmv tomorrow, I have the original mso and a bill of sale from the guy I bought it from. I hope I can title it in my name.
I'll update once I get home! Thanks for the help.

As stated, it varies from state to state, but most states will accept the MSO with a Bill of Sale from the previous owner, the rub is, your DMV "may" require the Bill of Sale to be notarized. I usually call my DMV before I go and ask them specifically what I need to bring and does any of the documents need to be notarized. Might save you a trip.

Also some states, since it is a used vehicle, might require some kind of inspection prior to being able to register/title.

Most states DMV websites have alot of good info and I back that up with a call just in case.

Just got back to work from the dmv. Everything went smooth. The lady was unsure at first and had to call someone else but they took the bos and mso and all was good!
