I have been thinking about buying a motorcycle carrier to mount on my cars trailer hitch. The most interesting product I have found is the so far is the “Ultimate MX Haulerâ€Â

I am not going to knock on any product, I have not used the joehauler. However I can attest to the usefulness and ease of use of the Ultimate MX Hauler. Works outstanding on SUV...I have an FJ Cruiser and it is great. Even can get the addon to carry gas can. Jacks up the bike like a ATV jack, and locks in place with a bolt. Very well made and very sturdy.

has anyone seen a similiar thing that goes on a tow bar ball? I always thought these things only work for big four wheel drives etc..... has anyone used a haller on normal cars with success?

The company is here:

If you are using one of these you need to check what the maximum 'nose weight' of you're vehicle is. The maker will tell you or it will be in you're handbook.
The bike and rack combined need to be under this weight.
If you exceed this is;
1: very dangerous and
2: illegal and you could end up with a ticket, points and/or a fine as well.

I use one for GMC Yukon and on the back of my 28 ft Travel trailer it works great.I also use some magnetic signal and brake lights just some added insurance. My carrier is steel but I am presently looking at a two bike carrier made up of aluminum. It will carrier up to 600 LBS.Held by a Class Three hitch.

Hey Schlingsi,

Just a thought...

Try going to a steel supplier and see if they can supply you with come heavy wall SHS (Square Hollow Section) you'd need to drill the main hole for the locking pin, and to stop it rattling, bore another hole on the corner where the Landcruiser hitch has that lock bolt, that way your lock bolt will work directly on the stem of the bike carrier.

In Norway I don't think you're llowed to have more then 60kgs on the tow ball....Light bike? :)

Azza, good thinking there. I thought about doing it myself as well but it is always a pain to track down something like that here in Byron. I think u know what I mean :p ... I think the hardest part will be to find a square tube that is 2.25' and 0.125 thick. Or do you reckon a steel supplier should have that? Guess I'll find out by calling them.

thanks mate.

A reference book I have for a Canadian supplier shows:

HSS (hollow structural section) SPEC G40.21 - GR 50 W

2 1/4" x 2 1/4" with a wall thickness ranging from 0.100" to 0.250", including 0.125"

It should be relatively easy to source what you are looking for.

Cheers

Hey Schlinngsi,

do you get ADB? there were two in the july edition, one was the Newlite Bike Hauler, in the product evaluation section, it looks pretty damn good and solid, they show it hooked up to a CR-V or a Rav4 and at a glance it looks like the stem is a 2" square (??)

the other is the 'Mo-Tow' which looks pretty fancy, Probably Alloy construction except the stem and frame -= they sow that on a Prado, and it looks like a 2" square as well.

you could try contact them and see what the hitch sizes are at [email protected] or newlite - 02 4572 5536

Havent got to my old mans workshop yet, but I reckon I've seen some SHS that'd do the job nicely, I could even size it up on one of the 100 series fleet landcruisers he maintains.
