hi guys, yet another question!
i am spending a bit of time over the winter making my bike a bit sexier and i think my engine cases (clutch cover and stator cover). it's an '03 501 so it hasn't got the 'qr' clutch cover so it's a little fiddly to remove but that's going off the subject in hand... does anyone recommend a coverering for these covers? i could just paint and laquer them but i'm guessing that would wear off very quickly, would polishing the alloy up and laquering that be any better or will the laquer wear off and let the alloy fade thus looking sh*t?? what sort of coating do they come with as standard? is anodizing an option or is this expensive? if not where would i get that done?
cheers again!

Hi Ben, I had a few pieces anodised for mu old KX 125, I think it was 2 silencer cans, and a home made bashplate, all up it was about A$120. dont know if its likely to be any lesser or greater expense in UK?

worst thing I picked up was that the electroplaters were used to doing big factory runs, lots of the same pieces, etc, doing a couple of small one offs seemed to be a bit of a hassle for them.

I also had some stuff nickle plated too, that wasnt as expensive as one might think either.

your clutch and ignition cover in black or blue matt would look pretty good I reckon??

thanks mate... don't really know much about nickle plating, what sort of finish does it give? Also i was talking to a mate today and he thought the alloy would be of a high enough grade to polish and not laquer! has anyone tried this? does it stay shiny or just dull down!
thanks!

Hi Ben,
Nickel is like chrome, I used it on a 2Stroke expansion chamber, hont know if it is suitable for alloy coating though.

you could allways give the pieces a polishand see how they last, you wouldnt be any worse off for it, if it didnt last, you'd be able to carry on with anodising them.

yea that's a good point mate, i might jus try that before i search around for a company who can anodize!
thanks for the advice azza!

Hey Ben,
The stator and clutch covers are cast and would be flat and dull if anodized if they were ty 2 anodized (like excel wheels) it would wear off quickly. Hard anodize would hold up better but is pricey, your best bet maybe powdercoat. I have a picture in my gallery of a cast hub hard anodized. Good luck
