Hi, I've been a lurker here for two years and decided it's about time I joined. Two years ago I bought a '07 650 as I've always wanted a Husaberg. Long story short I was thinking of putting a 540 kit in my 525 and just decide to go the whole hog. Having a young family I haven't had much time to ride so the last two years have been spent tinkering on the bike and only just managed to get my first decent ride on it recently. I have a couple of questions.
I bought a used Joe Rocket oil cooler and a used underseat tank, now I've been pondering if I can ditch the cooler part as it's cumbersome and plumb it into the underseat tank instead to give me an extra 2.8 litres of oil. My main concerns are if the plastic tank can take the hot oil. (My Buell runs a plastic oil tank. but I don't know if it's the same type of plastic.) ( I have thought of getting an alloy oil tank made to fit under the seat.) The tank has an outlet on the bottom and one on the top that can be used for an inlet. Will the oil pump handle it. I noticed something in an old thread where Lineaweaver mentioned the pump only had 20PSI and an oil cooler would lower that. But I'm not a tech head so it was a bit hard to grasp.
Or is this all just a dumb idea?
The other thing is I noticed when the bike gets hot it will flame out and then be hard to start. mainly the starter wont crank it over when it's on TDC. Is this a starter issue or do I need a battery with higher cranking amps? Or is it both?
Other than that I loved my first ride on the bike, I'm running 14/50 gearing but will go back to the 15 on the front. I loved the stability of the bike, the few times I got out of shape I just backed off and the bike straightened up where normally I would of ate it.
