Current mision is to get my 400 fitted with a 39mm fcr mk1

I know the info I need is in here somewhere but for the life of me I cant quite figure it out so I'm hoping someone can steer me right.

#1 I've read that Yamaha WR cables fit but all the ones that I've seen are a two cable setup and won't fit my Domino twistgrip (single cable) so I figure I would need to get a two cable twistgrip like a yamaha item to go with the twin cables. Can anyone confirm this and perhaps point me to parts that will fit together.

I also wonder if there is a single cable that will fit the domino grip and the fcr carb?

#2 My carb has an inlet spigot that doesn't quite fit the rubber manifold

I can't figure out if I need a different inlet spigot or a different manifold rubber. I read about the suzuki "goose" spigot and my carb has a screw in spigot but the ridges and grooves don't line up and the spigot is about 3mm longer than the rubber.

More pics in my galley for anyone inclined to look. http://www.husaberg.org/index.php?set_a ... _album.php

Thanks in anticipation of making the next step.

as long as i the rubber seals properly and holds in place i wouldn't worry about 3mm or so.

as for the cables i did run the mk2 fcr i put on my '0 400 with a single cable bodged onto the domino twist grip, but this was only for a couple of rides whilst i was setting it up. after that i got a new twin cable twist grip.

if i was you i'd look for a twin cable twist grip so you know its right

As far as cables are concerned, I fitted a set of motion pro cables on my '03 FE400 w/ MK1 carby. The motion pro part number is 10-0077. They are an extra 3" long so it helped with routing etc...

motion pro cables

The doc says to use the "Goose" spigot. I have one that I didn't need; I ended up scoring an MK1 with a cast spigot.

"Goose Spigot"

*EDIT*
Also, motion pro sells throttles as well - throttle

Thanks Guys, that definitely helps.

I'm gonna take your advise and get the motion pro cables

with a twistgrip to match

So Kzoo; what rubber are you using? (pardon the pun) It looks to me like the goose wouldn't fit my rubber much better. (said the actress to the bishop). I think I better stop....

After looking at it I reckon the ting to do is turn a few mm off the end of the spigot so the bottom ridge in the rubber engages in the groove on the spigot. Should be a good seal and will help keep the carb forward (which I read is a good thing).

Some one tell me how nice my bike will run when I'm done please.

i can't see the problem? the doc says trim 5mm off the inlet rubber and i don't think that's changed? if you do that the lip and the groove will match?

the carb needs the correct diameter on the inlet trumpet which if i recall was 66mm diameter. so one way or aniother you need that to be your OD on the trumpet.

i used WR cables but they have to be modified to work so if anyone has new and better then that's good. so kzoo can you be a bit clearer?

kzoo, are you saying that the cables are 3" longer than husaberg or 3" longer than WR cables?

that's the trouble with being the very first to do something....looks easy afterwards for everyone else!

Taffy, the problem I'm seeing is that my spigot is 3 -4mm longer than the rubber so in my case I need to trim the spigot.

Inlet end of the carb is a sweet fit on the sock so all good there.

I can't order the cables direct from Motion Pro cos they don't ship to Canada. So I'll get them from a local dealer. I reckon that they'll work fine with a new twistgrip.

What kind of grip are you using Taffy and what mod did you do to the cables?

i had to drill the eye in the throttle grip further apart from each other, i had to trim the shoulder for the cable right back, i removed one of the double lock nuts. essentially, i needed to find nearly an extra inch of slack. i could have drilled the wheel on the carb as well....

sorry about the spigot, i had a brain fart! i remember that problem, get the vernier etc and make sure that when it's all done: a lip goes into a groove.

if that spigot can be screwed out then a man and a lathe will have an easy time.

Yep, The spigot unscrews so EZ fix.

So what grip are you running? I guess not a great match for the WR cables right?

same as i put in ther doc

i think they are called pro grip 795s. superb grips.

Taffy,

The Motion Pro cables I used are manufactured by Motion Pro; the part number is 10-0077 (picture is not what they actually look like). They are for a 2002 KTM 400EXC, with an added length of 3 inches as compared to the stock 2002 KTM 400EXC cables. The list price is ~35.00 USD.

When I had first started fitting the MK1 carb, I bought some cables for a 450EXC and noticed that they were pretty tight on length, and worse off, the ends at the carby were too long and I had to back then adjusters all the way out. So I figured this was due to the fact that these cables were intended to be used for an MK2 carb so there must be a difference in fitment????

I decided to order some for a KTM that used the MK1 carb. I bought the one's with the extra 3" so that way I would not get a set of cables that I wished were a bit longer. When I received them, all I had to fit them to them up and adjust them. No other modifications needed. I don't know the exact length of these cables, but I can get that if needed.

The 39 I fitted to my 501 came from a WR400 complete with thorttle assembly and cables. Fitted fine after sorting an inlet trumpet, machined up by a mate, and finding a inlet manifold at the wreckers as I wanted to keep the original original in case I wanted to revert. Pics in my gallery.

kzoo
i get you. so what you're saying is: they are a choice of std plus3".

steve
those trumpets can now be bought made in plastic and coated in aluminiumy-ish kinda way! my advice to anyone is to always buy the carb with the cables and throttle housing. less fiffing and faffing around!

Thanks for all the input folks.

It seems there is some variability in of the inlet spigot on FCRs (cast or screw in).

Steve; I guess the rubber you got from the wreckers was a stock berg item that you cut down to suit your spigot; right?

No idea what it was from, just one of a pile in their bucket of inlet manifolds that was a close match that the carb slipped nicely into. I think I had to rat out the mounting holes a bit from memory and also was able to match port it to the head so ended up without the standard 'step' at the top.

Yes, the cast spigots are ~12mm in length.
