Quick Question....

Has anyone ever used a moose clutch instead of the factory OEM clutch? If so, how does it compare to the factory unit? Does anyone know if there are any other aftermarket clutches available for our bikes?

Don

I must pick questions or topics that either no one likes to talk about or has no knowledge of. For the life of me it always seems like every time I have had a question posted here it always seems to get ignored. Do I have to be part of a certain club or is it that I have to post a stupid question that has an answer in Taffy's doc... at least that way I am guarenteed a funny or sarcastic response from Taffy. Hee-Hee

I have used Moose cluthes on other machines and they have been very good. But to be perfectly honest I havent worn out a Husaberg clutch yet.

Hi Don,
Just wondering what you would be hoping to find with an aftermarket clutch. I've heard of very few problems with the oem unit and can testify that the factory clutch on my '02 501 works brilliantly! I did start to experience some slippage with my '97 fe 400 so I just added an extra steel plate to the stack and she worked like new!

What year is your bike?
What don't you like about the clutch?
Are you sure the clutch is the problem?
Maybe you're having troubles with the shifting mechanism.

Regards,

This sounds like a search for after market parts that will work on a Husaberg. Would be nice to know even if right now you don`t need one. A good question.

thing is ruffone i try not to ignore new members but i haven't a clue what you're on about!

i am not sarcastic. americans are just sensitive people that's all! ask anyone from texas...

good luck!

Rufone,
I have not seen any credible evidence of a "club" here on the UHE although there are members who are more active and participate more often than others. Most of the time anyone's questions, dumb or not, get good play from the membership. Maybe its just the time of year, or perhaps most were as nonplussed as I concerning the subject.

I am sure that you had an unstated reason to ask about aftermarket clutches, but quite frankly (IMHO) they are unnecessary for Bergs. The clutch plates in my '98 600 are original and the plates in my '98 501 have survived thru four engine rebuilds so far and perform well. I am going to change them when I install a Revloc next month, but don't have to.

If you need to replace yours due to wear or failure of some kind I have a spare (used but serviceable) set that I'd be happy to give to you. They are out of a '99 FC501. Check interchangeability.

Hi, rufone...
I'll second DezDuster. My '98 is still on original plates, still plenty of "bite" in them; seems most of the guys going to aftermarket clutches do so for specific purposes, such as the supermoto slipper clutches to limit tire drag on downshifts, and Rev-loc and Rekluse installs for autoclutching and stall relief in real low speed technical-type rides.

Hi Rufone:

There are no special clubs or cliques here that I am aware of either. This is probably just a slow time of year with everyone getting ready for the holidays. I don't know of any aftermarket clutch plates for the Berg's except for the slipper and auto clutches made by Revloc or Rekluse. As evidenced by some others the stock clutch plates seem to wear like iron. I have never had to replace one on any of my Bergs and have never had any sort of clutch problem. Probably one reason is that these bikes are so torquey no clutch slipping is needed like on a two stroke.

Happy Holidays,

Eric

Thanks guys!

I have a 2000 FE400E which I bought used last year and which I think the original owner abused a tad and also he tried a few home engineering tricks to the bike that were done poorly. I have just been slowly fixing everything brining it back to factory condition. I was inquiring with a Husaberg dealer for pricing on a bunch of parts since no one has any listed anywhere online. I just wanted to know what the price was for the OEM clutch/clutch basket when he came back and gave me the pricing for a Moose Clutch saying that it was half the price of the factory part. I have never used one and no one mentioned anything about them here when I did a search so I thought I'd ask.

Hey Taffy, I wasn't complaining about your comments I actually think they are amusing! Hee-Hee

Thanks Again!
Don

Apparently The Moose fiber and steel plates are made by DP Brakes.

The Moose website and the DP site show no listing for Husaberg. I don't know who makes the clutch baskets for Moose but the selection is quite limited, again no listing for Husaberg.

Perhaps the parts person assumed that since Moose has KTM clutch parts they will have Husaberg parts also. This does not seem to be the case. If you are able to acquire Moose clutch parts for your Berg please post the price, part numbers and related info :)

Maybe Taffy can find out if DP will be offering Husaberg clutch parts in the near future as they are a U.K. company.

Hey Husabutt

The dealer is a Husaberg dealer out of Indiana. They emailed me a price of $193.85 for the Moose Clutch. They did not list any part numbers but did say they sell a lot of them because they are cheaper then OEM. I just figured that since they were a Husaberg dealer and they say they have sold a lot of them then someone here must be using one, I guess I was wrong. Oh well....

I just get frustrated trying to find parts and pricing online so I try to get as much part pricing as I can when ever I deal with any of the dealers. Every other manufacturer of bikes make it easy to order parts by listing their pricing and part numbers online but yet not one Berg dealer has this information available.

Just in case anyone is interested here are the pricing and part numbers of the rest of the items they gave me:

- 160 125-01 Splash Shield - 54606010000 - $14.99

If Moose gurantees their parts will fit and it saves
you a bunch of money, I would try them. So far
everything I have purchased 'Moose' has been
good.

Hey guys

Sorry it took so long to get back with these numbers. This is what the husaberg dealer sent me for the Moose clutch part numbers. (Moose manufacturer part numbers) They say it fits my 2000 FE400E for anyone that is interested.

The KTM 4-stroke Moose clutch also fits your Husaberg.
F705505-7 Friction Plates $102.95
FHDS87-6 Springs $10.95
M807505-8 Steel Plates $79.95

hello don

i'm a little concerned on a coupla fronts before i add to the doc this stuff-which i'll gladly do.

the first is to ask, is your bike the later engine with the waterpump on the sidecover or is it the earlier engine with the waterpump on the head?

secondly. we started to saher stuff with KTM in 2002 big time but were otherwise quite independant. i haven't seen it written anywhere that we share a clutch with KTM that far back?

i'm sure you'll get this sorted and then i will add it.

regards

Taffy

Hey Taffy

That's a good question, I'll have to look to see where my pump is and then I'll get back with you on that. I also have an email that I sent to Moose's manufacturer inquiring the fit of that clutch. Originally Midwest KTM in Indiana gave me the pricing for my stuff and they were the ones that told me that clutch fits a berg. I'll let you know what they say.

Don

Hey Taffy

I'm back with the answers for you. My bike is indeed one of the later 2000 FE400E's. The pump is located on the side of the motor. Also this is the email I just got back from DP Brakes, the manufacturer of the Moose Clutch:

[color=red]Hi Don,

I have answered this. As far as i know the Moose parts do fit your bike.

Don

ok don i'm with you.

when are you purchasing and fitting the clutch? or if you have-how did it all go?

regards

Taffy
